Heavy Escort aka Mercenary Cruiser (T20 design)

Mark A. Siefert recently pointed out a new miniature line of ships. That post is here.

Inspired by the Terran Republic Navy Orion class Cruiser miniature by Cold Navy I hacked out a small ship scale set of stats for it in T20:

Orion class Heavy Escort - TL 13 - Crew=15

HE-8433642-300000-00000-0 MCr335.576 800tons

Passengers=10 Low=0 Cargo=205 Fuel=290 EP=50

Crew: 2 Officers and 13 Ratings with up to 35 Troopers

Officers: Pilot, Astrogator

Ratings: Engineers x5, Gunners x6, Medic, Steward

Troopers: x10 in single occupancy, x35 in double occupancy

Designer notes:

It doesn't need a m/4 avionics set, I just prefer to do my T20 more like CT in this regard and match all subsystems to the main computer m/#

As allowed by Hunter the maser comm includes a m/3 radio comm

Sufficient power is included to operate at agility +3 OR power turret energy weapons, not both.

The storage hold is typically for personal gear (1dT per person, or half that if double occupancy). It may also be used in part for life support stores for extended missions.

The weapon bay, allowed under the option rule, coupled with the adjacent (port and starboard) power bay and fuel bay will support a 50dT Particle Accelerator, not included. The weapon bay could also be used for other types including a missile launcher with the adjacent bays converted to magazine use*.

* I don't charge the cost associated with magazines, treating them as simple cargo holds. If adjacent to the weapon they serve an autoloader is included in the cost of the munitions load.

Optionally* the bays are sized to fit a standard modular cutter and two spare modules, also not included. Or they could of course be used as simple cargo bays.

* yes I know this breaks the "one-half volume" rule about hauling vehicles and craft in empty weapons bays, but in this case the bay is specifically designed to accomodate a cutter at full displacement as a special case and the price of the bay reflects this. The power/fuel or module bays are also priced as craft bays for this reason.

The 2dT for each of the four turrets could be used for a small (1dT) turret and associated magazine, or for a medium (2dT) turret, or even for a small (1dT) pop turret, though there is little doubt the craft is a warship and hiding the turrets wouldn't gain much in the way of suprise.

The small craft (SC) hanger is sized for the typical launch or gig but does not include the craft, leaving the choice up to the owner. A small craft is strongly urged as the ship is not capable of atmospheric operations or even landing on a vacuum world without an extensive gantry for support. This ship is in the truest sense a space craft.

You are far too quick for my RL downtrodden sodden mind Dan. Nice work, even if you seem to fudge a few things here and there ;) .

:D

Thanks, sometimes I can rush perfection ;) at least the rush part

I don't mind fudging when it's just a little inspired personal design, case in point, though for the most part it is valid. The fudge with the bays just fell into place. A 50ton PA Bay needing 30EP and that just working into two 30ton bays at TL13 which of course screamed cutter and modules. I like versatility.

I was happy it fit the basic merc cruiser stats for tonnage, drives and staterooms but that wouldn't have been critical. Like I didn't mind dropping the computer a level, mostly for the power but partly for the cost. That's also why it comes ready to load rather than loaded, cheap to buy and then add what you need as you can afford it. This could maybe almost make it as a merchant, especially if you use a per parsec formula or get a subsidized route for it

Hmm, guess I need to spec out the subbie version and see how it does profit wise, back later...
