Ditto my comments on the Medusa-class: not so many little sandcaster batteries and add repulsors and other "soak-off" weapons.

Why only 75,000 dtons? With Mod/6 computers you can get up to 999,999 dtons of ship, so why so small for a "battleship"?

I thought a model 6 computer is limited to size R - 199,999t - or less?
Another bit of High Guard I wish was clearer.

Does a size M ship reqire a model 5 computer as a minimum, or does it need a model 4 as a minimum?

I'd build a battle cruiser at 74,000t, and a battleship much bigger, 100,000t minimum.

I actually never had a problem with the computer/ship size table idea.

To answer Sigg, the model/4 is required at size K (10,000tons to 19,000tons)* and good through to size N (40,000tons to 49,000tons)* so a size M ship will only need a model/4.

Now I can wait for him to show me how I've been naive all these years

* My habit is to round to even numbers, 10ton increments for small craft (up to 100tons), 100 ton increments for small ships (up to 10,000 tons), 1000ton increments for medium ships (up to 100,000tons), and 10,000ton increments for large ships (anything 100,000tons and up)to avoid being too min-max and speed the whole design process. Otherwise you find designs being made at 199,999tons that should really be called 200,000tons just to cheat on the computer break or some such other unrealistic rules advatage like the size mod table. But that's just mtu

Ahh, the light comes on.

Thanks Dan

So when Oz says 999,999t that's because a TL12 model 6 computer is the minimum needed for ships of size code R to X. A 1,000,000t hull needs a model 7 computer.

Precisely
You're quite welcome Sigg and I'm relieved it wasn't me missing some nuance again :D

I can see where The Oz is coming from but there may be other reasons for going with a small battleship even when able to build bigger.

For the same money you can build more, and to a point numbers do rule even in HG combat.

And there's always the trade off between auto-crit soak by size and to hit mod by size. Though 75Ktons is the break in the second table so it's a size that makes you easier to hit, it is also the needed auto-crit safety level vs TL12 Spinal Particle Accelerators.

I'm guessing that's the reasons for the size choice.

This is a totally alternate setting, where 75k dTons is very likely the biggest military vessel ever constructed.

Cruisers are going in at 20k dTons.

There was a TL-12 fleet construction topic that outlined the relative size/class ratio for this milieu a few days ago.

So, you decided to include dampers at TL-12?

Or is the story going to be that they're "an advanced prototype" (TL-13) only available for this vessel?
