High Guard or LBB2?

Which CT ship design sequence do you use?

I oft use HG designs for MT combat, as well...

Currently, my design sequence of choice is actually T20, but that's close enough to HG.

Preferred combat system is a mayday/MT Personal Combat hybrid. When running CT, tho, it's always been Bk2 and mayday movement. 1 hex=1/2 G-Turn.

I detest the combat system in HG.

RObject's almost got me convinced to go back to Bk 2.

Mr. Steve Slayton almost had me convinced to use Starfire...

HG for squadron design. I like the feel of massive ships pounding at each other that the abstracted combat system yields. It also seems to handle large battles well without being too slow.

Ship design not so bad especially once programmed into a spreadsheet.

Book 2 Plus. The power of MegaTraveller in Book 2 packaging. An unbeatable combination.

Ditto.

A lot depends on who my players are. I try to use the system that best would work with them so that play goes smoothly.

If I'm just gearheading by myself, I'll use whatever system best allows me to realise the design concept I have for the ship.

After thinking about it a bit, I realized that the Book 2 rules are a manual spreadsheet of sorts, with the drive table pulling triple duty. And in fact that's the part that gets me. One table, three applications. Wonderful.

High Guard is nice, in that the formulae are there for us to see, and it's trivial to carry a simple formula around in my head.

However, High Guard does involve multiplication, and stupid as this may sound, I don't like to multiply. I have enough trouble adding.

I think I'm going to cross the lines to HG (in a modified form). Simply enough, I was using LBB2 with many HG grafts; also, I just realized that for any ship for more than, say, 400 dtons, LB2 combat is going to DRAG ON, with each weapon having to roll to-hit on its own!

However, I'm probably going to use Sigg Oddra's PC-Level rules for the smaller ships.

Yes, Employee, if I hosted some large space battles, I'd want to use something HGlike, too.
