I always played in High Guard that a natural 12 always hits...But from some threads I've read (regarding fighters in high guard) this isn't always true?
by the rules no, a natural 12 does not always hit. this results in some ship configurations being immune to certain weapons configurations, the most annoying one being fighters can't hit other fighters.
given hg2's discrete one-dimentional battlespace depiction I'd have no problem with a "natural 12 always hits" rule. might want to add "natural 11 or 12 always hits at close range". but be aware that hg2 is a very limited system and even small changes to the rules have marked repurcussions in how the game runs.
