You can use any of WotC's core d20 rules books, including Star Wars and 3e D&D. My group uses D&D.

there are also several sources of free downloadable d20 System Resource Documents (SRD) available online, which are all the rules, and no purdy pitchers...

I use d20 Modern for Traveller and Gamma World, solely because I am mad at George Lucas... its a pretty slick book though...

i am mad with Geoge Lucas sort of too...

mostly because he was saying that they can write anything as long as it doesn't interfere with 4,5,and 6 but then he writes over the expanded universe works for pre Rebellion and goes on saying "there was no army of the Republic" when there was other wise they couldn't have fought in the sith war.

The only things that the d20 Mod would be required for, is to generate character ability scores, and to know about the XP progression chart. These things are included in the d20 Star-Wars book; so you don't need anything else to use T20.

or you could decide how to roll up you own characters.
6d6 5d6 12d6 2d12 3d8 1d10+8 etc
If you know how to roll up a character you don't really need anyother book

I'm mad at George Lucas, but for different reasons. In any case, the Sith War happened how many thousands of years prior to ANH? And furthermore the Republic at the time of TPM did not have a centralised military, but a whole string of regional ones. Palpatine authorised the formation of a central army, which could naturally be commanded centrally, as opposed to forming coalitions with thousand-planet alliances to fight in a war (very similar to what the CIS did).

Of course, what this has to do with Traveller escapes me.

Having the Jedi isn't the same as having an army. Rather like during the middle ages - you had the nobles who brokered peace, acted as diplomats and moderators, and enforced the will of the reigning monarchy, but they weren't an army unto themselves.
