Homeworlds comparison chart

As Promised: to complement my last visual aid, I created Special Supplement 1105-002-SC004-KS, "Size Comparison of Homeworlds and Culturally Significant Worlds". It's a .pdf that shows the capitals and homeworlds of the major races and powers in comparison to each other. I used Torben Mogensen's "Planet" to create the vegetation, desert, bump, and specular textures, and did some creative erasing and grain merging in the Gimp to get some good maps. Celestia was used to render them. I screen shot, cropped and assembled them in LibreOffice Draw. I'll have some notes on what choices I made regarding color and land shapes tomorrow. I thought I might throw together a video showing the maps of each, then how they appear from space.

I started a spreadsheet to track sources for canonical world maps in the OTU. If no-one else has done so already I'll share it.

Where might those be?

Regina was in two DGP products, which makes it harder to find but doesn't (as some people think) automatically de-canonize it. Look for Grand Survey and/or World Builder's Handbook.
Zhdant is mapped in the original CT Alien Module. The map may be repeated elsewhere.
Kirur is mapped in the GURPS Traveller treatment for the K'kree.

Here's the list - just using references I have handy. I don't know if I made it through my entire collection - probably not. Additions welcome!

Vland, Terra, Lair, Kirur, Kusyu, Regina, Zhdant, Glea, and Capital have been mapped.

I don't have references for Guaran, Home or Reference, but I may just be missing them.

Note that I did not include worlds where we have renders but not maps - I probably should have. I noticed that GT: Humaniti has several. Also, Regina, Depot and Reference were on FFE trading card prototypes, so we have canonical (?) representative renders of those worlds if not whole maps. You can find details at:

https://github.com/inexorabletash/travellermap/tree/master/res/Candy/worlds

If you can do more quality renders using the maps please let me know - I'd love to incorporate them into world data sheets e.g. like http://travellermap.com/data/core/0140/sheet (that's why I started gathering references)

I'd be very honored! Some of the Gimp'd renders are at 8192x4096, most at 2048x1024. The renders I pulled from Celestia are no less than about 620x620. They're mostly canon in that the hydrographic percentage is accurate, and I tried to find seeds that produced worlds that fit the general description. I think Regina comes vvery close. The generation proccess is completely random, and I relied on a big library of sample worlds I created in spare moments (about 1,100 so far). I just finished a PowerShell script that I want to turn loose overnight; I might have 10,000. I'd need to figure out how to create surfaces directly if a specific map was needed. I've relied on Planet to do the creation process so far. Here is the zipped file: Homeworlds.zip .
