I notice a distinct lack of Bots and Droids

Looking for a listing of robots and androids to use in my campaign.

I see the generation tables for these usefull things.... but little discussion on them or details / pictures to liven up the NPC personality pool.

Did I miss the thread?

There are only a few robots listed in the Mongoose Core Rules and no firm rules in the Core Book. Robots in MgT are in Book 9: Robot.

Robots not being in most of the books is deliberate. Traveller is geared towards a science fiction style where "living beings" are the doers and robots are merely tools. This is reinforced in a rules standpoint. Aware robots are developed around TL 12, with true free thinking Artificial Intelligence set at around TL 17. Robot books been written in the past have followed these generalizations.

Nah, C3PO is perfectly doable at TL12 as per LBB:8

There is a big difference between artificial intelligence and artificial sentience and selw awareness.

The robots of Star Wars are not sentient.

In fact, AI and self aware computers/robots were listed as TL 17 in page 86-87 table in CT:TTB and in tables in pages 28-29 in MT:RC.

You can't be specific. DGP made a right mess of LBB:8 with contradictions all over the place.

Page 5 tells us that crude AI begins at TL11, the Robot Brains chapter tells us its TL16 an the construction tables put it at TL17.

According to the history table in MT Terran officers ha AI robot assistants during the later Interstellar Wars era - repeated in LBB:8.

What is needed is the distinction between AI and self awareness/sentience.

Apparently according to the latest science Traveller may have to rewrite its bot-books yet again. I saw some news snippits where integration of data and emotion is programmed, but also an "organic product" (so to speak) by letting the AI draw on its experience for a proper response. Again, if we're doing it now, then what's in store at TL12?

Traveller has never really been consistent with "the latest science"; why expect that to change?

If you want YTU to be consistent with "the latest science", house-rule away and never violate the Prime Rule: Have Fun!

C3PO was certainly self aware. Rewatch all the movies. It is quite clear. Very near human as a matter of fact.
It's what the emotion simulation does. I've never seen the droids as anything more than machines. R2D2 is destroyed in the first film and they just repair it.

The jedi total disrespect for driod rights is the giveaway.

Edit - and now I have to apologise. I've just read up on wookiepedia that droids may indeed be constructed as self aware. Which makes their treatment in the films little more than that of slaves.

Which contradicts what one of the movie novels said that Anakin upgraded 3PO with every enhancement he could.

[m;]Image in first post reduced in presented size so that people with smaller screens can actually read the posts.[/m;]

When I have to pan L-R-L-R to read it, it's too * wide. use the [imgw=400]url[/imgw] tag for big images.

I'm not even referring to the sentient robots aka C3PO or the like, but rather just the presence of robots as an integral part of the workings of a ship or space station or cargo hub.

You don't consider your car "sentient" or even robotic yet many people name their cars and become sentimentally attached to them.

I just wanted to "flavor" my campaign with some.

Any suggestions?
