IRIS information

IRIS was an interesting chargen chart. I can see why some people didn'tlike it. (I can see why most didn't like it.) In all fairness though if you actually rolled as well as you needed to roll to get an IRIS character then any character with the same rolls would have been outrageous. As for other Intelligence characters. I always favored the Scouts as having an Intelligence function. (The gen charts had the neccessary skills.) The Military characters also had Intelligence personell. (As evidenced by Intel school allowed in Army, Navy, Marines and Scouts.) The problem is that you couldn't roll up an Intel specialist. Though an Intel specialist is a rather boring character to play. James Bond doesn't really exist.

If you really want James Bond then may I suggest an Army or Marine Commando with a tour at Intel School. (I haven't figured out the right combination for a similar character in T-20 yet.)

The classic Marine Sniper isn't even really available under T20.

Rogue character can produce something like James Bond. Or you can just run the character through Naval OTC and then Intell. school like the original.

The only trouble with that is that to get an intel character randomly you have to roll pretty damn good dice.

Of course, a player may buck for intel and the Ref permit him to take intel school for each special duty rolled. I would say Police Action or Counter Insurgency are the tours he would seek to take.

or you can construct some tables from the skill lists

Considering us Intel Weenies are a rare breed in the first place that makes sense. Looking at the US Military only the top (according to the propaganda.) 10% are allowed to enlist in Intelligence Specialties. (10% may actually be a bit high when you include the Security Clearance screening.) Of that 10% less than half make it through the training. So in the real world you need some good rolls to be in the field in the first place.

If you are looking for a real challenge for an Intel Agent, model the Geisha in an Interstellar environment. I've been thinking about a Prestige class for T20 called the Star Dancer. On the front, she just looks like an entertainer, but behind the scenes, she is almost like a Ninja - secretive and infiltrating. Bene Gesserit type of thing - but more active. It's rarely honestly touched on in games, just for the fact of the potential for sexual escapades. Kinda hard to take her seriously when the PCs think she's just a toy for the game...
