Is Etranger ever going to be updated?

I love Etranger, there's great writing and great art. I'd love to see an update but it probably depends on people writing and creating new content combined with the owner having time to update it. As far as I know its a fan site and supports the earlier 2300AD not the newer Mongoose edition.

The major contributers became busy with life. Dan for example I think is now a Major in the Australian Regular Army. Laurent became a dad. I did a PhD.

If I do anything in the real future it will be an online PBeM "Star Cruiser" type thing to playtest my new rules.

As Bryn says: Life got in the way. I used to contribute a bit to Etranger (and Arrse :) ) but deployments and career courses meant I didn't have much of a private life left.
I do play every now and then and recently discovered a lot of the people from the Etranger site on the 2300AD *spit* Facebook *spit spit!* page.

You can contribute there. The same sort of discussions the old Etranger mailing ist used to have are now held there.

I HATE facebook! ARRSE is hilarious, especially its section on Walting. Must I subject myself to FB?

The main reason I hate FB is because, by not being on it, I have become a social pariah and lack contact with many cool discussion groups that moved there. Since FB is an occupational hazard for me (criminal justice), it totally drives me batty that everything takes place there nowadays. Etranger has just become one more in a long line of things of which I have to exclude myself from.... grrr.

Several lawyers I know have FB - they just make certain not to use their real name on FB.

Etranger was awesome -- and I say this as someone with no military background in real life or really much interest/enthusiasm in it for gaming purposes. But the quality of the writing, artwork, and _thinking_ that it generated was the best thing going on in the 2300AD scene for many, many years!

(I'm another FB refusenik. As long as I have one or two friends with reliable taste willing to filter it out for the necessary cat macros and news of the weird for me, I don't feel I'm really missing out on anything.)

Yeah, real life sort of got in the way of a lot of the writing time I once had. However I might be getting some more leeway over the next couple of years to at least finish off some of the stupid number of unfinished articles I've got lingering in the hard drive...

And yes FB is definitely somewhat limited forum for a lot of occupations.

In terms of Mongoose or other variants of 2300 I'd host anything that was written for any sort of 2300 - my days of cleaving solely to canon were over almost two decades ago. I also have a half written 2320AD Invasion analog that was never finished.

Cheers

Dan

Good to hear! Etranger's military articles were the inspiration for a number of changes I've made in my 2300esque homebrew.

Good to hear that I'm not the only one with many unfinished adventures and articles lying around!
Maybe after I graduate and started my second career... Although something else will probably pop-up and eat up all my time ... again ... :)
