Is it just me? MERCHANT PRINCE question

Hi Guys and Gals,
Is it just me, or is there a problem trying to generate a character beyond 2nd officer in FREE TRADE service?

Page 20 of MERCHANT PRINCE indicates just which categories of skills may be used by what characters. On that same page under Promations, it indicates that unless a character is serving at his highest possible classification (ie 02 trying to get promotion for a promotion to 01), the character may not take the examination to gain promotion.

Now for the disconnect. In order for a 2nd officer serving aboard a Free Trader to make 1st Officer, said 2nd officer must be serving as a 2nd officer, and must have Navigation-1 in order to take the examination for 1st officer. As it turns out, the player can roll against the FREE TRADER BUSINESS table in order to try and pick up Navigation. So, let's say that the character is lucky, gains the Navigation skill as a 2nd officer, and attempts to pass his certification (ie get promoted) for 1st officer.

Fine and dandy. Until you look at what a 1st officer needs in order to attain the rank of Captain. He needs to attain the skill of Pilot. There are only two tables that contain the skill "PILOT" in MERCHANT PRINCE, and they are:

MASTER SKILLS

and

DECK SKILLS

Per the rules on page 20, MASTER SKILLS are available only to those characters who are DECK DEPARTMENT personnel whose rank is 04+. Per the rules, DECK SKILLS are available only to those who are serving as Deck department personnel.

In other words? It is not possible for any Character in MERCHANT PRINCE to attain the coveted skill "PILOT-1" by any department available to Free trader deparment characters.

Am I wrong with this assessment? Was there an errata to fix this issue if I am right?

According to the Consolidated Errata for CT you need to do this:

On page 26 (Service Skills) you need to change result #5 on the Free Trader Business table from Steward to Pilot. This puts the skill back in play.

Thanks. I recall using that fix myself a long time ago, but I figured that was just an issue of my noticing that there were two "stewards" in that column, but no PILOT as necessary. Glad to see that someone noticed it and fixed it.

D'oh! Of course, I should have recalled that it was on the farfuture site, I had yours open in the next tab so I just snagged that link :)
