Is MGT more compatible with CT or MT? ...

What would be easier to run "on the fly", The Traveller Adventure or Hard Times?

I'm basically going to try and keep it simple but I heard that Chargen in MGT generates PC's that closely resemble MT PC's , so maybe MGT has more in common with MT and there adventures and stuff easier to convert?

thanks

MT

Its more similar to MT really. But The Traveller Adventure is easier to run.

Hard Times is a fantastic module, but is set in a very dark time period.

The MT Aslan Traveller book is closer to the MGT Aslan Traveller book as an example. The MGT Aslan book is the BIGGEST Aslan book ever published and first time it's been released as a hardbound too. A great job by Mongoose publishing.

I myself think that "Strontium Dogs" coming out this October should be easy to run "off the fly" like the Traveller adventure is:

So, first run "The Traveller Adventure" then run "Hard Times"

Agreed, MGT is most closely similar to MT... Especially in total skill levels received. Plus thhe use of a single task system, and in survivability.

Hard times is a bear to run... mostly because once you do, if the campaign continues, the setting is in bleaksville. But also because HT is also much shorter, much more dependent upon knowledge of setting, and specifically of the timeframe in that setting.

TTA will be a good fit with the MGT. It runs well under CT, MT, T20 and even T4.

I agree that MGT is closer to MT, mainly because of the number of skills a character gets.

If you want to pick up some very cool Traveller adventures, look at the BITS stuff. They've got a handful, and Cold Dark Grave is one of the best Traveller adventures I've ever seen. It's archetypal for the game, too.

Plus, the way BITS adventures are written (with the multitude of Traveller systems in mind and the BITS task conversion system), they'd be easy to convert to MGT rules.

From the Number of skills, integrated and universal task system/profile it's closer to MT

From CharGen it's closer to CT (all random) than MT (random with Brownie Points)

Actually HT is a good set of adventures with a number of benefits:

+ It does not take place in the Spinward Marches
+ No Ancients, Psionics, Alien races etc. involved
+ Summing up the Situation is easy since you can handle 1120 years in a paragraph
+ Action packed with some intrigue and espionage elements

As for the "bleak" part: Ignoring/changing the events past 1130 has been done (Look for alternate Rebellion ends on this board) and the Region where it plays survives for some time

Michael: Brownie points officially are only for Advanced Gen characters, not basic.

Sorry, should have stated that. Rarely used basic chargen, advanced did fit the types of characters played and offered a bit of control on the results.

And many MT GM's use only basic, or a mix. In any case, the overall rate of skills for MGT is just a hair lower per term.
___ Mean σ
CT_ 1.38 0.31
MT_ 2.47 0.31
MGT 2.00 0.17

Note that MGT core is MUCH tighter than MT or CT; the standard deviation is much lower (meaning the various careers are much closer to each other in terms of skills per term). Note that I haven't done the math for MT Advanced; it is more convoluted, and I don't have the motivation to do so.

How do you get the BITS stuff here in the states? I tried Steve Jackson Games and Amazon with no luck...

On a similar topic, does anyone know of a way to get the BITS adventure that was split into two parts and padded for T4 -I think it was called "The long way home" ?

"The long way home" and "Gateway" where the two adventures. Can be played individually and consist of a number of sub-scenarios. Actually published by Imperium Games.

Try Amazon.com or DriveThruRPG for the PDF's (8$ per piece)

I have the original BITS version. Absolutely the best Traveller adventure I have ever run.

Yes, that's the one ! I don't suppose you are tired of owning it, are you ?

I have the T4 versions; I'm just not sure where the padding starts ; I'd be interested in the original "no ending in the middle" version.....
