Is the Sol system native to the Milky Way at all?

Two findings this month are fascinating:

1. The Milky Way galaxy is currently subsuming the 'Sagittarius dwarf' galaxy.

2. Apparently, our solar system is at the 'nexus' of the Milky Way and a swath of the debris of the Sagittarius dwarf galaxy, and is being propelled at a 60-90° angle relative to the rest of the stars of the Milky Way. This finding also explains why the Milky Way appears tilted in our sky.

Seems to me that with that, one can form a classic RPG 'extended hypothesis':

Fictional Hypothesis: The Solar System is not native to the Milky Way galaxy and in fact, our solar system may be part of the remains of the 'Sagittarius dwarf' galaxy. An ancient clash between the different energies and entities of the two galaxies has resulted in all kinds of incredible events to befall the players...

Very cool concept Micki, this could be what 2300AD, AGRA's intelligences are like in their mature form. The entity that was found in the Pleiades was simply a child (given its behaviours and effect on the PCs, completely consistant with the terrible 200 000s).

Furthermore, as these creatures see Earth as the nexus, it could also be the reason for hyperspatial travel originates from Earth making it one of the few worlds that can achieve Galactic dominance.

Interesting. And perhaps the reason Traveller maps are flat is because Jump space is only operating on the very thin plane of the intersection of the two galaxies. And eventually Jump Space will be less and less accessible as the energy fluxes between the two die out. Ya know, if you're looking for a kinda science-fiction explanation for the old map debate :)

Hmmmm, the radiation from two different galaxies. The Nexus that creates 128 sectors and Life inside it. I'm adding this to GrandFather's ToBeDetermined list.

"Propelling" may be a misleading way of saying it. The motion induced by the external magnetic field is very small compared to the "proper motion" of Sol system.

Imagine being on a ship crossing the ocean at 50 knots and you find out that you're actually in an area with a cross current of ½ knot. That would be a much stronger effect than the magnetic field altering our trajectory.
