Issues with Quicklinks, Today's Posts, New Posts

As it says in the title.

When I try to use the Today's Posts and New Posts buttons in the Quicklinks drop-down menu I get a page of gobbledegook and a link to a software package.

My antivirus hasn't picked up any issues my end, so I was wondering if anyone else has this issue. If so I need a new antivirus.

Or is it a board issue?

I've not noticed anything--unlike the other week when there was a problem with some ip addresses being blocked for whatever reason.

ETA: now Firefox won't load them. (5:45 am MDT vs 6:00) It shows
"Content Encoding Error

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression."
But then, it often takes time for Firefox to show that I've read the new posts on pages--I typically must log out and back in to get updated. Dunno if that makes a dif.

Same issue with the message:

Safari cannot open the page. The error was: “cannot decode raw data.”

I've tried explorer and edge and the same thing shows up - a link to a page selling some sort of software product and the rest of the page is wingbats...

Same here:

Content Encoding Error

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.

I dug into this a bit last night.

It is not a database problem. If you run curl against the URL that gives you problems you can see the whole page coming back just find. in text mode. So the server generation of the page is correct.

I got both firefox and chrome developer tools out and looked into the request. The problem is the server is sending the request as "Content-Encoding: gzip", but it's really not. It's plain text.

So somewhere on the server is a setting that asks this page (but not others) to return as gzip encoded when it isn't.

Mike: If you could include the link you are seeing, or at least some of the relevant parts of it, it may help in tracking down the problem.

Otherwise, if anyone has suggestions about what to look for in the server configuration to solve this problem would be really helpful. The google machine has been less than helpful about suggestions of where to look and what to try.

The link take you to a webpage:

CaRP Evolution documentation

it offers to fix the problem by downloading stuff - looks a bit suspicious to me.

BTW, I cannot connect to the TravellerWiki at all, AND I am having issues with the both the New Posts and Today's Posts links on CotI.

I know about the Search page issues.

What happens when you try to get to the wiki?

I think I've tracked this down. Can anyone still around please try the various different things.

New Posts works.
Today's Posts works.
Search works.
Wiki is accessible.
Travellermap is accessible.

(Didn't check the latter two during the outage, so they might have been up the whole time.)

Thanks for working the issues!
