It wasn't that it didn't age well? It was just so full of sci-fi tropes and bad comedic writing? It was like ten monkeys got into a room and started banging on a typewriter and the producers. "Meh...We can make this work?" The show seem to be made for 3 yr olds humor? And they grabbed all the charactor actors from that time period. It was like looking at a bad 'Z' rated movie, those you find on VHS tapes being used to level the workbench in the barn. I could live with the effect, character and the premise but, the acting and script was just horrible!

I warned you! It was a half-arsed, low-budget attempt to swiftly cash in on the sci-fi craze that was ushered in by that certain movie by Gene Lucas. ;)

Richard Benjamin was the Paulie Shore or Adam Sandler of the 70s: noone knows why on earth that guy ever got work.

The Star Wars Holiday Special (not Christmas - that was the audio album, Christmas in the Stars) was a pretty typical variety show format. Also, it's been having its elements - Life Day, the various names - canonized in other modes.

I preferred The Muppet Show special for Star Wars ... with Kermit asking Mark Hamill what he could do (because Mark just wasn't quite that famous yet for Kermit to automatically know).

Can’t argue that it was typical holiday dross. Which I didn’t watch, cause dross. Just, why did they have to do that with THE franchise?

No treat for me, only tricks.
They had million$ of rea$on$ to do it.

(And yes, I'm arguing both sides of this. It's a thing that got broadcast, it wasn't great, but was kind of expected at the time. Media back then was weird.)
