Just got my copy of High Guard from Amazon....????

Hi, fellow Travellers,

I just got my copy of Book 2: High Guard (MgT) from Amazon a few days ago, and it is my understanding that all of the errata that are on Mongoose's site are now in the current printings (I was told this by Matt at Mongoose this morning). However, my copy appears to be pre-errata! None of the changes in the errata PDF are in my copy from Amazon. This really bothers me that Amazon is still shipping older copies of this supplement.

Does anyone have an idea of what the best recourse would be on this? I feel that if I contact Amazon they would just send me another out of date copy...

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Send Matt a copy of your invoice and tell him to have MGT send you the correct version. Maybe that'll put pressure on MGT to actually manage their channel partners

That's exactly right. Indeed, I did this with my copy of Mercenary and HG. (Say what you will about their editing and quality control, but Mongoose generally have a friendly, helpful attitude, which earns them points in my view.)

Mongoose has, in the past, been phenomenal with responding to print issues and binding problems. Definitely contact them as I've rarely seen anyone disappointed after such a correspondence.

Also, Mongoose may not even know that Amazon was doing such. The warehouse may have a pallet or two of those books, one new and one old, not that they would notice.

If you think Amazon can be managed to that degree, I have sorry news for you. They really are a law unto themselves.

If anyone runs into issues such as these, you will _always_ be better off contacting us directly. We will be much faster (and friendlier!) than Amazon. Which is why you should buy from us, not them, but that is another story :)

When I ran s/w through them I didn't have a problem getting them to comply with contractual obligations of not selling old CDs. I required stock back (I paid for shipping) when old.

There's news for ya.

Just wanted to give an update:

Matthew had me send my old edition back to them (I paid shipping), and they sent me a "supposed" "new" one. IT WAS THE SAME BOOK THAT I HAD JUST SENT BACK! I informed Matt of this, and he said that it shouldn't have happened and that he would look into it. Finally, he told me that they had no corrected editions that were ready to be shipped. He told me he would send me one as soon as they were available. Last week, I received my SECOND corrected copy. I printed off the Errata PDF from the Mongoose site for High Guard, and compared it to this "corrected" edition. Well, SOME corrections had been made, but others had not. I am very disappointed. I wrote Matt again, and told him all of this. I also informed him that I am considering not buying anymore Mongoose products.

I mean how hard is it to go down the errata list an make sure all of it has been corrected?

There have been two waves of errata for High Guard - the first wave has been integrated into the books, but we have not had a major print run for the second yet. When we do, anyone with a previous copy is welcome to contact us, as you did, and we will send the latest book out for free. Until then, the errata is available for download on our site.

I was very disappointed to hear that you were considering not buying any more of our books over this. However, I would point out that there are not many other gaming companies that would send out copies of books that have had, to be completely fair, minor changes in the text, with no hesitation and no charge.

Hi Matt, good to see you answering questions here. I have to agree your policy on print replacements goes beyond fair. I've been wondering though if you'll be updating the pdf versions with the errata at some point, if you haven't already, and if you know if DTRPG still sends notices to all subscribers when a publisher posts an update. They do (or did) offer 5 (iirc) free redownloads to customers for the express purpose of facilitating such errata corrections. Thanks in advance for the answer.

...dang it, missed him by that much :(

Honestly, I wouldn't expect a replacement dead tree version (nor would I want MG to do so due to cost to company) however, PDF updated would be great.

The PDFs should be updated - if you notice any that we have missed, let us know and we'll get it done within a few hours! We send emails out via Drivethru every time we update, but not everyone has email acceptance selected.

Matt,

Sorry about the vent. It's just that when you look at the errata PDF, and look at the latest thing you sent me it appears that some errata was fixed but not others. Will the errata page be updated (i.e. the corrected areas removed)? I might reevaluate my decision to discontinue using Mongoose publications.

Also, I have one other question. The character creation example in High Guard states that he needs Soc 6+. The character rolls a 5 (his Soc gives him a modifier of 0). I can't find where it actually states the Soc 6+ in the generation rules though. Any help?

On the next big run, we'll update the book to include the second wave of errata. However, we won't touch the errata itself - not everyone may have the same copy of the book as you...
