Lasers and Armors

Heretic

SOC-1
So we have ablat and reflec, which deflects lasers at a certain amount at the expense of lower physical protection. I was wondering how much protection flak, combat armor, etc. etc. would give against lasers. I looked around but got nothing.

And I presumed Battle Dress's protection fits both lasers and physical attacks, but I saw a sneak peek of Central Supply Catalog at my Hobby Store and there was a battle dress that had a protection against lasers alongside its 'normal' protection.

In my Star Wars universe I simply used the protection of the armor across the board, both physical and energy-based with ablat being a cheap/expendable option and reflec being the stuff more advanced stormtroopers used, but I'm doing a more serious game and this ruling is confusing me.

EDIT: TL;DR Various fluff states that armor not specialized against lasers aren't as effect, but how does ineffective are they stat wise?

Armor works the same against all damage types unless it is specifically noted otherwise.

Ablat has an armor rating of 6 against lasers, but only a rating of 1 against all other damage.
Reflec has an armor rating of 10 against lasers, but is useless (armor rating 0) against any other damage type.
Tech Level 10 Cloth armor has an armor rating of 5, which is useful against all damage types.

As a house rule, I typically allow characters to wear reflec over soft armor such as cloth or a flack jacket. So reflec over top of cloth armor would have an armor value of 10 versus lasers and 5 versus any other type of damage.

Thats not really a house rule. Reflec specifically says it can be worn with other armor. Except the rules allow for a greater level of protection. (Assuming Reflec over TL 10 Cloth armor, that would be an armor rating of 15 against lasers (10 for the reflec, 5 for the cloth), and a rating of 5 against everything else (from the cloth).)

Unless otherwise noted, only one type of armour can be worn at a time. Resolve damage from the outside in – damage that gets through the outer layer of armour is next applied to the inner layer.

Reflec (TL 10): Reflec armour is a flexible plastic suit with layers of reflective material and heat-dispersing gel. It is highly effective against lasers, but provides no protection against other attacks. Reflec can be worn with other armour but is hard to obtain and quite expensive.

Its been like this since CT, and going through MT. Not sure about other versions.

Traveller 20 allowed reflec to be word under any other armor, with the exceptions of combat armor and battledress.

In fact never thought about it, but in my gamming groups we always assumed BD/CA were already equiped with reflect-like material and so didn't asume it could be worn with it, but I'm not sure if it was in the rules.

Of course, in very few instances BD/CA entered in play, in nay case, except if they did something that could call the attention of the Imperial Autorities and Marienes appeared (or some times when they called the Marines after resolving a puzzle, realizing the brute forcé part of the thing was too strong for them).
