livestock for cargo

i'm looking at the 4/tons part of livestock from the speculative trade goods chart, and remembering a post about 'how many livestock make up a ton anyways'? well, does it really matter? livestock could be anything from chickens to Talkan's Grazers (400kg-880lbs).
the real question is, how much life support does all the livestock require? unless your hold is refridgerated and you have a few butchers on the crew, your livestock will turn into spoiled meat, which, i think, will spoil you profits. and what about extra crew to clean and care for the livestock? unless you're space cowboys, a week in jump space with unhappy livestock could become a big problem...

The easiest way to go is that life support is included in the transport boxes, crates, or containers.

Stick them all in cold berths.

These were designed for transporting livestock in the first place, the survival roll for humans is due to them not being designed for human use (that's from E.C .Tubb's Dumarest novels by the way - but since Traveller lifted them without even filing off the serial numbers...). Unlike the emergency low berths, which are designed for human use and don't require a survival roll in High Guard - yet oddly they do in CT. If the survival roll applied in HG there is no way you would get volunteers for the Frozen Watch 17% die, assuming a doctor survives to aid the revival roll, if not you lose a lot more.
