Looking for "Atlas of the Imperium"

jhulse

SOC-12
I haven't play Traveller since 85-86. I've stocked up on some new and some old rules and supplements. What I would REALLY love to have is a copy of "Atlas of the Imperium".
Anyone, anyone... ?

BTW, the internet didn't exist, or software for that matter, when I last played traveller. I'm a very, very busy Architect, so the more things I can lay my hands on to recreate my old campain, the better. So, I've seen lots of software for creating ships, worlds, sector maps, etc... Could someone recommend a couple. I have purchased most of the GURPS rules, and may buy the T20 system as a suppliment.
Thanks for any assistance.
It's good to know that Traveller is alive and kicking. Much more so than I ever thought possible.

Any specific operating system and rules set or just any and all good stuff?

So far it looks like GURPS as fas as ship construction. As far as worlds and starcharts, any system will do for me. As a rule, I play fast and loose with rules when it comes to planets, tech levels, starports etc... Mostly I just want the ablility to create really cool looking star charts!

For the Atlas of the Imperium, I would suggest waiting for FFE to release the Second Survey reprint. Quite frankly, despite it popularity and eBay price, the Atlas wasn't terribly good. Of course the reprint is "late", but it will come out. (Hopefully before the end of the year.)

The single best GURPS Traveller construction program is Tom Bont's GURPS Modular Vehicles. You can find it at http://webpages.charter.net/tombont/files/.

I do have to say that, despite the lack of "accuracy" of any GT deckplans I have seen, I really like the GT ship construction. It does a lot of things to "rationalize" starship construction, and has a great mix of "detail" and "simplification". And with GMV, all of the calculator work is gone!

(He also has a GURPS Character Maker program that is simply excellent, too. Plus its free!)

And since you didn't say what platform you're using and there is a small (what maybe 5% ;) ) chance you're using a Mac you might check out Rob Prior's offerings here < http://www.cybergoths.u-net.com/BITS_website/ > Just click the products link on the left of the page and scroll down for GURPS Starships and GURPS Beastiary (which also provides stats in Classic Traveller, MegaTraveller, and T4 format.

Thanks and thanks. I'm still not certain which system I use. Since I've been out of Traveller for such a long time, ideas of staterooms have changed. I must say I do not like the GURPS layout of the Suliman Scout. The original is much better. I may mix one system in ship design, and another system for the simple mechanics of charictar generation and rolling dice. I'll try and find some other ship generating software and world/system stuff after I get some shut eye.
Way past my bedtime.

Is that the one with the door on the back without an airlock? I always thought that was so cool...(If you're an evil Ref, and wanted to dust off a whole group of PCs...

Atlas of the Imperium? There's one on ebay right now.

But really, you're not missing much - there's more and better info available on the internet. My advice is to wait for Marc to finish Second Survey which looks to be much better than Atlas.

Good Luck,

That is, if Second Survey is ever published. Summer is almost over.

While I am waiting as impatiently as anyone else, I don't think it's that severe. I doubt the issue isn't if it will get published, just when.

I got into the reprints after 1-4 were already out. And every single one since then has been radically late. But they have eventually shown up.

Hello Jak Nazrith,

I have both CT: Supplement 7 Traders & Gunboats p. 17 and G:T 2e p.131 open to the deck plans for the Sulieman. The one in G:T has a little more detail over the one in C:T. The main item missing between the 2 is that C:T shows the location of the port and starboard landing feet and G:T doesn't. Of course another difference is C:T uses squares measured in meters and G:T has hexes in feet. The layout differences also adds a little more realism to the construction rules. Different Plants that create the same vehicle designs have little differences. Ships of the same class have
slightly different interior design layouts.

I think one of the biggest reasons I don't like the GT version for the Suliman is because it appears that most of the upper gallery has been used for fuel, and the common area has been moved back to the caro area. I remember (all those years ago) in 9th grade, stuffing almost every square in with extra cargo!
By the look of the GT layout, there is almost nothing left. Also, there are no rooms labled as was the case in CT, so at this point, you have to guess. This is also the case in Far Trader as well. The deck plans look familiar, but nothing is "spelled out" for the GM or players.
Grrrrr... :-(

But that was then, this is now

By which I mean like you when I played decades ago I took the deckplans as correct and filled the attic too. Then a time came when I drew the cross sections (which I note from other topics you also do now) and realized just how cramped and tiny that attic was. I suspect the GT team did the same and rather than mislead with a deckplan showing space that is less than full height (which some might not realize) they just moved it to the usable space below where it could have full deck height. Probably the same reason (not having see the GT plans) they moved the common space aft.
