Loose Ends and unresolved mysteries

...the very best kind of mystery: one which goes largely unexplained in the Referee's Notes! The unorthodox starship, of obviously alien design and manufacture, crewed by a diminutive humanoid (minor?) race, whose demise is apparent but unidentified. The on board technology is advanced and exotic, yet it is not godlike. To deepen the mystery, there is a reference to the exotic world, Victoria.

As with many of the early GDW Adventures, details were provided on a strictly need-to-know basis, with many of the details left deliberately vague, if not missing altogether. Truly, an entire campaign might be run, using just this adventure as a starting point. Perhaps that was the initial aim.

Thanks! That sums it up nicely. Despite the fact that I'd been in a couple of games where we ended up with the ANNIC NOVA, and running several for other folks, I definitely noticed the vague part.

Always figured it was from Spinward/Coreward myself, just off the map somewhere.

Best,
Will

I believe that is most likely. With the bizarre jump drive configuration she had, the ANNIC NOVA could have come from just about anywhere, but surely she came from beyond the borders of The Imperium. There are some real marvels (read: nightmares) of naval architecture which turn up from time to time in the Frontier Worlds.

Still-functioning derelict ships

...which, of course, could be one perfectly logical explanation for it!

For those of you with a derelict ship IYTU, what is the longest period of time that ship continued to function (unmanned) before degradation caused total system failure, catastrophic failure, or the ship was discovered/salvaged?

I think the reality of the situation is that any group which comes away with the ship at the end of the adventure will have it confiscated, possibly with remuneration or maybe not, by the Imperium for study.
