A similar underclass can be found in Space:Above and Beyond - two of them actually.

The 'tank' grown - similar to replicants - and the mechanical AI synthetics.

Some good ideas in that program - shame they didn't get the chance to explore them more.

I believe the movie 'Soldier' starring Kirk Russell was supposed to be set in the Blade Runner universe.

I've never encountered this before, but I'd say that if true, it doesn't have much effect on the movie.

Not rubbish (IMO, of course), at least not until act 3, which is where most movies fall apart. The first two-thirds are pretty decent SF, I think; even thought-provoking in places. Then it all gets thrown away for a cheesy, explosion-filled climax.
