Marc Miller-approved new ship art/mini designs

I am going to take a guess and say that is a Skimkish Class Light Carrier (29kton) - CT:Supplement 9 (p.34).

EDIT: I also think they need to do a Ghalalk Class CA - That one was always my favorite.

I thought it resembles the Wind class strike carrier more than a Skimkish.

I looked at the Wind Class also, but I think the aft section looks more like the Skimkish (or at least an interpretation of it - I never could quite get a feel for its actual appearance from the Sup 9 picture).

At any rate, the deciding factor for me ultimately was the tonnage. It is right next to a Gionetti (30kton). The Skimkish is 29kton, but the Wind is 75kton. I think it is too small for a Wind Class vessel.

As I look at the Aslan ships, the one on the left looks like the 10,000 ton cruiser from MT rebellion sourcebook or one of the ships from page 61 of same.

I agree, but the projections look too thick for a Skimkish, still, I concede that it is too small for a Wind, so your'e probably right.

At this scale, the projections on the Skimkish would snap off in a moment if the miniature strictly matched the illustration in Supplement 9.

Some of the other designs required modification. For example, the bridge on the Gionetti had to be modified because it would have produced severe undercuts in the mold, which would have prevented good castings and would have worn out the mold in short order.

What material are they made of? cast "lead"/pewter, or resin?

I would think 3d printers could pop out "plastic" versions quickly.

Pewter.

A lot slower and more expensive that you'd guess. Resolution is a real problem, as well. Many of the folks on The Miniatures Page have complained about the quality of ships from Shapeways, for example, because the "pixelation" of the surface is so obvious when the miniature is painted. Your dT/parsec my vary, of course.

Unfortunately, 3D printing isn't a panacea for strength issues. The Fine Detail material that Shapeways uses will snap when you have long projections as fine as those shown in the Supplement 9 illustration. The Strong, Flexibilty material can't produce as much detail, and on a model as small and detailed as this, that's a big loss.

Pewter.

And lead produced even finer details than pewter. Pity that's now lost to model-makers due to over-zealousness from the Powers That Be.

I dare you to try pronounce these in public, or get your players to pronounce them.

Let's stick to the minis, please.

You win a prize.

An Aslan assassin will deliver it in the dark of night. Pity about mess ...

Since the cats out of the bag, so to speak, can you give more information on the Aslan ship's.
Displacement, class type, etc.

Also, the write-up say's the "fleet book" will give new canon information on the Zhodani ships. Is the info on the Imperial ships the same as in Supp.9 or is there new info on the Imperial ships as well?

Can't give out new info on the Aslan yet. We need to hold something back for pre-orders/Kickstarter.

There's a lot more information on the Imperial ships. Some is operational, some is sort of internal Navy politics. A variety of material.

Woot! New ships to add to my fleets!!

OK, I recognise the 75 kdt Atlantic-class heavy cruiser (although I admit to thinking it was longer and less pointy at the prow!):

I *don't* recognise the one to the right of the Gionetti. Missile cruiser?

The next one is the classic 5000-ton P. F. Sloan-class Fleet Escort, as detailed by Marc himself in Challenge #25. *drool*

The Aslan ships are new. They're not FASA's Hero- nor Intruder-class. Be interesting to see what they are.

Dunno what the smallest Zho ship is, either. :-( TELL US MORE!!

I thought at first they looked more like old Terran Confederation ships as shown from the outline from Imperium.
