Mass Effect Andromeda?

Mass Effect Andromeda Announcement was wondering how this would be handled using the Traveller rules?

So far I'm thinking unexplained wormholes, the PCs are sent via various expeditions whether accidentally or deliberately used as guinea pigs to test the connection as the wormholes don't last long and its unclear what's causing them.

So the group consists of members of various groups who meet up once on the other side with no idea whether they're still in the same galaxy!

Figure that might work well using the MA Andromeda for inspiration, what do you think?

1) are they supposed to find something on the other side? or just be there?

2) are they supposed to come back?

Just out of idleness, really, but we were once 'this' close to licensing Mass Effect for Traveller :)

This deserves a "Like" button!

The idea is that a wormhole has been hovering up errant ships for unknown reasons dumping them in another star system with no means of returning or even warning anyone of the threat.

The PCs get to explain how they ended up in this other star system knowing that their ships jump capability is limited to travel inside a star system rather than jumping to other star systems to head home.

My intention is to involve them in the home world generation so even if they end up without an inhabitable world they will have enough information on the star system to decide where they're going to start exploring and the nature of the colony even if it means the majority of their ships were built together into a makeshift space station for them to live within.

What I'm not sure about is how to make this more interesting to them so they'd want to play in this setting.

That's why I'm posting this here to iron out the kinks!

Being the complete and total Mass Effect junkie that I am (proof), this would have made me "SQUEEEEEEEEE!!!!" with such delight y'all would have thought I was a 12 year old girl at a One Direction concert. I would be counting the days to the Andromeda launch, if they had a launch date....

But as for Traveller, a wormhole or wicked misjump could do the trick. After all, isn't a worm hole how Clement Sector got started?

They discovered what they thought was a stable wormhole which was expanded until they could send first satellite probes and then eventually ships through once they discovered it opened into a star system on the opposite side of the galaxy (I think its the same one?).

Always wondered what if there was an artefact that detecting crude insystem jump drives activated a wormhole sending unwary shipping to either another galaxy or another star system how would they be able to tell if they were even in the same galaxy?

Just because one side is working doesn't mean the other side is operational enough to open a wormhole back, but lets assume the technology exists but we're back to wondering who built this stuff and they might not be anything like human.

So what if there's plenty of aliens over there they might not be that much more advanced but how would they react to humanity?

So many questions not so sure I can cover all of them!

That would have been epic.

It boggles my brain that Mass Effect remains the only "standard" sci-fi video game out there that just pits a crew and a ship against everything else. At least, the only original one out there since KOTR and such are Star Wars material.

With its success, you would think there would be more.

Sorry overlooked I had already created a thread on this!

So anyone care to discuss this in relation to using the Mongoose Traveller rules?

If you had to run this how would you handle the opening?

Who would be responsible for whatever happened to the Hyperion?

Was it internal sabotage?

And would you care to stat up the world they ended up on?

Well, once I stopped to breathe from playing the game through at least 3-4 times, here is how I would handle it:

Opening:
If you want to stick to the plot (at least what we know about it at this point) of the game then the players embark on a "Generation Ship" where they are in cold berths until the ship arrives at their destination.

Otherwise, you can use either a wicked misjump or a wormhole to explain how they got to another galaxy.

Who would be responsible for whatever happened to the Hyperion?

Was it internal sabotage?

Hyperion
From the trailer it looks like something goes wrong with the ship. It isn't clear if it is sabotage, simple mechanical failure, or they are attacked. How you handle this depends on what type of story you want to tell.

And would you care to stat up the world they ended up on?

I would use a sector generator to start with a randomized sector and then tweak it out for the story. I would also create multiple new races and beasts based upon what is in the game.

You would also have to deal with Biotics (instead of Psionics) and re-do FTL travel. None of this would be particularly hard to do, especially if it is for your personal use (you can adjust for game imbalance on the fly), but it would just be time consuming.

Of course, for me the biggest challenge would be to stop playing.....
