MegaTraveller Hardcover?

I was rereading the "core rules" to MegaTraveller when the thought occured to me that an errata free version of the three core books published together in a hardbound book would be cracking! Include a large pull out color map of the Spinward Marches and color glossy pages showing all three book cover paintings and I'd pay $40.00 dollars for this. Does this sound like a good idea to anyone else or does every one think it is just so much litter for the Aslan's kitty box!

Definately sounds like a good idea to me. I grew up on Classic Traveller and fell in love with Megatraveller when it came out. I was recently rereading the MegaTraveller books (preparing myself to GM for the first time in about 15 years) and I was struck by how solid an edition it was ( despite the errata). So yes, I think a hardbound edition, that was cleaned up, would be great for game use and prosperity.

unfortunately "cleaning up" the errata and paying to have the plates for the printer re-shot would add greatly to the cost. Certainly the editing process would be "only" fixing the text, but then the page layout would need to be redone, and the images would have to be shifted to fit the new text blocks. That is if the images are still available. Many of them would have been part of GDW and DGPs in house properties, and who knows where thay are. If Quick Link and Far Future were to rerelease MT the most likely version would be a reprint like the collected JTAS and LBB that have already come out. Added to that could be a 2-8 page (I don't remember the total count) errata sheet in the back that was part of the binding. Then it might only cost $40, but otherwise, I doubt it. Nice Idea though :(

Its time t throw my two credits into the pot.....i would also pay good money for a reissue of Mega traveller. I enjoyed the system.....I used a lot of it in my classic campaign AND played it "streight"....apperantly so do a lot of other folks...just look at the prices of it on ebay.....some of the moduals are just down right EXPENSIVE....the system didnt get the credit it was due.....its part of traveller history....and should be taken seriously....it still has a lot to offer.... still got some "juicy" stuff in there......

I'm with the rest of them on this. I still run with my Megatraveller rule set as it is my favourite, but my books are getting a little worse for wear now.

Last time I asked Marc about it, his comment was essentially to "hang on" with the impression that it would happen after the CT reprints were completed.

Of course the best possibility would be to get all of the of the rules from the various books published by GDW for MT (PH, PH, IE, RC, COAC, FS, and HT), redited then for errata correction and to pull Milieu references, and publish it all in a single volume hardcover called T5...

I also would like to see an errata free MT. And, what's more, the whole of MT reprinted in a hardback would be worth 60US$.

What I cannot understand, with so many people who have incorporated the MT errata out there on the net, what would be the difficulty in transposing it with the existing images from the sourcebook. I know I had done this prior to my Hard Drive burnout. Why haven't others and offer it to Marc for a professional edit?

If "they" could get it ALL togather....I would even pay $60.00 for it at one big "pop"....looks how much we already paid for "classic reprints"....might as well pay it all up front.....but its gotta be "correct".....well done.....quality!!!!.....would consider even more....why not look what we spend already "Per Year"....

Have you guys seen this? It looks like, unless we convince him otherwise, any MT reprint is going to be electronic-format only. :(

And FWIW count me as one of those who'd be perfectly happy to see the MT boxed set + Referee Companion erratized, snipped of Rebellion-specific references, bound together as a single hardbound volume, and called T5.

Maybe FFE needs to do what Columbia Games does. They have a program where they announce product and offer a pre order. When enough people have pre ordered to cover the printing cost, they go ahead and print it and then ship it out to every one who ordered.

Columbia's not the only game company doing that, MultiMan's doing the same thing with ASL supplements and other games.

I second this idea!

I have heard that the DGP books are on CD somewhere.... I can't really tolerate the vehicle design system (cludgy!), but the career's were wonderful! And the graphics... oooohhh!

Alas, not anytime soon; at least not legally. See, DGP's assets are owned by one Rodger Sanger. He and Marc do not see eye to eye regarding the rights, to put it nicely. There are some other IP issues as well - as DGP did not pay everyone they were supposed too. Basically we will never see a reprint of the DGP materials.

Never.

As for Roger paying for DGP Authors, of the many evils that have been laid at his feet that is not his burden.

As for not seeing a reprint of the DGP materials well Hunter was seeking for a email address to contact Roger, I was able to send him some recently used ones by him as of 9/02, but I had to the the Rose email address to forward it to him.

Many things considered to a "never" happen have such as the "Berlin Wall" falling without a shot being fired.<G>

Granted as far as it goes. But I'll hold off on chearing till the product ships.

Re: payment. He was not the one who failed to pay. However, it is my understanding that when he purchased the rights he did so in such a fashion as to gain the liabilities of the earlier firm. If I am wrong, please let me know.

Well he "acquired" the rights to the DGP materials after a most interesting chain of events one was hard drive crash, removal of the license to produce Traveller related material(many different tales about this as to who did who first etc). Since I do not recall any of the DGP materials ever making any money, ie sold etc his sharing the "net" with the authors is moot point. Since he and Lord Marc cannot coexist in the same dimension let alone prime material locations.... So he can not reprint any with out Lord Marc's say so, he will not be able to generate revenue which could be used to pay the DGP authors.

It is my understanding the acquistion of the DGP materials depleated his available capital.

By the way GDW did not pay its authors towards the end of GDW, does Lord Marc have any obligation to pay back the authors that "may" still be owed monies?

If one is willing to go to the "Dark Side" of the Internet you can find the DGP materails there along with the MT materails. Scanners have in use for many years....
