MGT Only: MgT SRD 100 ton Jump 1+1 Trader

This is a cargo size optimized J 1+1 Trader designed using the MgT SRD rules. Can only be viable if speculative trading is being done.

Sorry to nitpick, but:

You could bear the expense of streamlining? The ship is not intended for the main ports (with high ports and shuttle services)?

Compact Bridge costs 10% extra (table HG Internal Components).

Less than Basic Electronics is a bit petty. You have already wasted the tonnage under Ship's Locker. As per the example ships "Standard" electronics are intended for small craft. If you keep to major systems with comprehensive traffic control "Standard" sensors might be enough?

PP Fuel is more than necessary, minimum is 2 Dt for 2 weeks for a PP A, so 4 Dt for 4 weeks. It's perhaps not clear in the SRD, since the fuel consumption table seems to be missing. See MgT1 Core, p107. It's the same as the fuel consumption table for Fission power plants, but per 2 weeks instead of per year.

Collapsible tanks are not available in the SRD, they were in TCS. 1% of 10 Dt = 10 Dt × 1 / 100 = 0.1 Dt. (Modular Hull is available in the HG SRD?)

Stateroom cost too high. MCr 0.5 per stateroom.

Low berth cost too low. MCr 0.1 per Eme Low Berth.

Ship's Locker takes no specified space, it's "free". See example ships.

Since it HAS to spec trade it must be able to go any route. Also, in lifetime save more in Cr using unrefined gotten free if needed.

Not in SRD.

In SRD this package is for non-small craft. And is legal for traffic control as it is listed for standard ships.

Thanks. That was a typo. I reused the template from an old 100 scout I was fiddling with.

Never had nor read TCS, got this out of a MgT1 book 10 years ago. Thanks for the decimal point correction.

Stateroom cost too high. MCr 0.5 per stateroom.

Low berth cost too low. MCr 0.1 per Eme Low Berth.

Thanks. Corrupted look up table. Glad I posted. Thanks for the look over! I can correct now.

So the corrected bottom line numbers are:
Cargo 55 tons.
Maintenance Cost (monthly): Cr1,836
Life Support Cost (monthly) Cr3,000
Total Cost: MCr 19,869,300

Cool, my nitpicking made the ship cheaper and with more payload. Great!

Dual occupancy means Cr 3000 life support cost.

Yes, thanks a lot! Oops. been a few years and forgot about doubled up staterooms.

The running oddity in the rules is no J1, M1, & PP1 for 100 ton hulls. Not that it would make much difference but it would make it closer to viable as a freighter.

Arrg! I had collapsed the row listing the compact bridge on the editable SRD

I'm seeing Cr1175/payload ton/jump-1.
Factors:
- Pilot salary Cr6000/month
- Fuel at Cr100/ton unrefined
- Life support at Cr2000/mo (one crewmember)
- 20% down payment amortized over the life of the loan.

When fuel is free (skimmed or dipped), it saves Cr31/payload ton/jump-1

If the pilot foregoes his salary (basically working for room and board), it saves Cr67/payload ton/Jump-1. (In the real world, putting someone in charge of MCr20 worth of ship for just room and board is probably unwise.)

Doing both gets the ship down to Cr1075/payload ton/Jump-1.

Still not going to make money, rules as written, with just freight. But it's close!

You are right, I keep forgetting that in Mongoose partially streamlined is good enough.

The funny thing is, in MgT "standard hull" can mean a cylinder with two cones on the ends which is far more "streamlined" aerodynamically than something like the space shuttle or the winged free trader. Less drag.

thanks for the number crunching. I now envision owner/operators more than employee crew. So, a person(s) who is going to speculate to make money since freighting won't make the grade. 2nd hand (post 40 years) will make a nice ship for a couple. Much like you see married couple trucker teams in the USA. Their rigs include a living space with kitchen, wet bath and bed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPAuJdzSa90
