Miniatures and Models

Not sure if I'm posting this in the right place, but I'm wondering what kind of Miniatures and Models have been made for Traveller? I'm mostly looking for starships, but I wouldn't mind seeing what kind of figures are out there, too...

Help?

Ad Astra Games is currently manufacturing starship minis,

formerly produced by MegaMiniatures . After the success of their recent Vargr minis, I understand MegaMiniatures will be producing 25-28mm alien figures on a limited edition basis beginning with K'Kree and Newts in the immediate future.

In the past RAFM made some really decent Adventure Class starships for Traveller, and character figures were manufactured by both Martian Metals (15mm) and Grenadier (25-28mm). All of these pop up from time to time on eBay, and are commanding increasingly higher closing bids.

I am unaware of any Traveller models available commercially. Currently, I'm scratchbuilding a 1:72 scale working model of an LSP ships boat. I also have a 20 ton gig kitbash in the works.

Cool! Thank you. So, what are you using to scratchbuild? I saw some non-firing hardening clay at the hooby shop yesterday and was wondering if that might work for making a mold. I've been wanting to find (or make) a Scout/Courier maybe 4 to 6 inches long. Just something to mess around with...

Structural balsa and styrene, fibre and plastic component parts from Quest and Estes model rockets, and plastic found items scavenged from the kitchen, mostly. For making molds themselves, Silicone RTV is hard to beat. Make: magazine Issue 08 has a great primer on moldmaking and also on scratchbuilding models and terrain from kitchen trash. Subscribers can get the full articles online.

Thanks for that link, Andrew. I spotted the same Type-J on Drango Four a while back. Steve did an impeccable job of model-making; somewhere down the line I intend to try my hand at a Sulie, too.

They aren't part of the canon, but Holistic produces a line of ships for Noble Armada which, IMO, are very unique and cool. They also make deck plans for the ships which the advertise as compatible with Traveller. I'm not sure if that means the have Traveller stats for them or not, though.

Those are all awesome! Now I feel a lot more confident making one by hand. I think I'm going to buy one of those Power Projection Scouts.

Sweet!

Thank you!

I wonder are the Ad Astra scout, free trader, & pinnance in the old RAFM scale or are they the larger, megaminis scale. The website doesn't say. If they the same scale as RAFM I would pick them up-better than ebay.

Sad thing, I ran into the old RAFM ships at a local gamestore. Unfortunately, I was unemployed at the time.

Really designs designed. Used to use at lot of cardboard buildings & Cardboards Heroes in my gaming. Got away from them after having people mangle them easily.

For buildings, I use flat maps(most recent are CC2 until it developed problems), & I repainted a few Micromachine Star War playsets. For vehicles either lead minis, converted toys(mostly Micromachines) & a few scratchbuilt plastic jobs. For minis I use a variety of lead minis in 15mm, & a bunch of Micromachines figures, half Star Wars & modern; & a few HO figures. And I still have some FASA ship plans & their starport hotel map-mostly because my wife only let me sell the duplicate ships.

Very nice, Baron! That's a Solomani hull configuration, all right! Reminds me a bit of Jeff Swycaffer's scout ship design from the Exonidas Spaceport module. What is the approximate scale of The Hidalgo?
