David Bowie, particularly the 70's stuff.

Queen, again largely the seventies stuff.

B-52s, Particularly their first album.

Almost any of the early eighties synth bands.

Gregorian Chants.

David Shayne

Lots of 70s prog-rock: Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, et al. Lots of mellotrons and spacey sound effects, lyrics that are frequently at least superficially futuristic/SF-related.

Early-period Roxy Music and/or Brian Eno (but not Bryan Ferry, solo artist)

Warren Zivon for a variety of uses.

Holst's "The Planets" for setting the mood.

Fanfare for the Common Man (I forget the composer). Wonderful for combat...

Aqua for mood music, especially when dealing with Darmine...

Arron Copeland... That's seriously twisted. Accurate, but twisted...

I'll have to remember to burn that onto my next mp3 cd.

TNE: Pink Floyd Division Bell, Amused to Death by Roger Waters

CT: Classical music

MT: Final Countdown by Europe

t4: I found myself inexplicably humming Amazing Grace (!?!)

Mike Oldfield: Songs of Distant Earth (something of a soundtrack to the Arthur Clarke book...)

The soundtrack to Midnight Express (70's movie about a Turkish prison), specifically the track "Chase" which many will recognize instantly but few know the source of...

Soundtracks to Battlestar Galactica, 2001 A Space Oddysey & Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

The long version of "Thus Spake Zarathustra" not just the short bit that got into 2001.

The (now hard to find) soundtracks to the first two or three original Bubblegum Crisis animes from 15 years ago...

Music I use for traveller?
Jeff Beck's Bolero- to set the mood for long spaceflights. Iggy pop's "Repo Man" sets the mood for Jump space travel. Any rock from the early seventies cna set the mood for space combat (I sometimes use the title music from 'Pulp Fiction') Clasical music, low volume, soft tones, sets the music to "peer-amid the ruins" left by the ancients. It's the thunderous classics, like Carmina burana: O fortuna, or montagues and Capulets. that sets the mood for ground combat.....

Blue Oyster Cult

Holst's the Planets

Soundtracks from Transformers the Movie, Macross Plus, and Streets of fire for Tech, Teck, and gritty urban decay.

Any specific tracks?

Have you listened to "Curse of the Hidden Mirror" yet?

Specific Tracks I like are:
Veteran of the psychic wars, sole survivor, ETI, Hot Rails to Hell (good for going into jump).

Generally, BOC writes songs that sound like game adventures - If they had RPG's when these guys were in High School, I bet they would be part of us.

And everything on Imaginos is perfect for a horror adventure.(I ran Imaginos once as a Call of Cthulhu campaign).

What about Hawkwind?

Such a vaired cannon, although there is an appeal (purely for irony value) of using Damnation Alley in the background of a medical race against time scenario and seeing how many players twig...

Seriously, I rather like the B5 music, and I'm currently using the 18 track audio CD with my CT newbies. It is written as incidental music, therefore it works quite well at a low volume behind the game...

There is almost a pyschic connection in my mind between Traveller and The Electric Light Orchestra, mainly because just about every adventure I wrote in high school had one of their LPs playing in the background. "Time" and "Out of the Blue" being the biggies.
Based on the actions and antics of the last group I ran I would say Monster Magnet's "Powertrip" CD or Godsmack's self-titled CD would be more appropriate.
