My 16 year old now liked Traveller

You may have seen my post on the write up, but I ran a one-shot game for he and his friends. They loved it. They asked me to make a campaign.

So I've been working on a Pure CT Only campaign.

Then my son discovered Mongoose Traveller. He thought the rules were easier. They're more presentable for he and his friends. So, he asked that I run Mongoose Traveler. His reason is that he wants me to run these games so he can learn how and then run them for his friends. When I pulled out all my CT stuff and started going over what's where, and started making a "player book" for he and his friends he balked a bit at what he perceived at the complexity. It's not, but he's cut his teeth as a gamer on Pathfinder. While I've started showing him 2nd Ed AD&D and a few others (all flesh must be eaten was a Halloween game I ran for them) he still likes the production value -- and Mongoose won.

And, we just dumped a bunch of money to buy the key books I thought we'd need and he would like.

MgT and CT are close enough that I haven't lost any of the work I've done, but I have to make a few changes and then I need to really learn the rules myself. The only version I had was a PDF I bought when it came out, but now we have a hard-copy.

So, looks like I was outvoted by my son.... I don't mind, at least he wants to play Traveller. And he and his friends are excited.

I think that's awesome. Mongoose Traveller is Traveller, after all. I hope he enjoys it!

And don't forget to buy the Deneb Sector book, for both of you :)

Thanks!

Yep, I'm reading the rules and I like what they did. I also like how Mercenary and High Guard chargen matches the core rules. Though they changed the book #'s for them which is mucking with my brain....

WHAT?!? Sacrilege!!! Everyone knows that Mercenary must be Book 4, and High Guard Book 5! How dare they? ;)

Never noticed that Mongoose HG is book 2 before!!!!

Apart from the missile rules I love the way this book handles capital ship combat, 8 range bands and the feel of gigantic ships slowly crunching away at each other.

Kind Regards

David

Yeah my heart still says CT but my head says MgT. I am yet to get into MgT at all really yet but I am looking forward to doing some mock combat setups etc to get used to the rules. I certainly prefer the MgT chargen which is the only part of MgT I have really experienced properly yet.

But I dunno, what with Lift Off coming out now, I may well switch to that because I find I cant remember lots of rules like I used to be able to. And a lot of what is in Lift Off seems really neatly thought out and clear especially the spaceship combat. There is stuff in there like heat and cold effects and snapshots during combat that I am thinking to myself 'is that even in MgT'? Even though I have read the whole core rule book there is a lot on MgT I have obviously forgotten.
