Hello everyone,
My first post to this forum.
I'm a Traveller player/referee since the little black books and very much looking forward to T5.
In the recent past my gaming group has mostly been playing d20 D&D in some kind of misguided trip down amnesia lane and I have finally snapped from over exposure to level based character advancement and an unrealistic combat systems and so have offered to run a different campaign. None of them have ever played Traveller before and are loathe to commit to heavily to a new game. So to ease their transition I am going to run a New Era RCES campaign set in the old expanses but run in GURPS. This solves several problems. Firstly, as early new era characters they wont have to know Traveller cannon so much, having just crawled up out of the wilds or hiver technical academy. Secondly, most of them have a working knowledge of GURPS, a system which also solves my problems as well (see above)
I'm kind of jealous of my players coming new to the Traveller universe for the first time. I may still get them to work through the old character creation sequence just to give them the idea of tours/careers and the depth it creates before we start spending points.
Thanks to everyone on the forum already for the great material posted here. It helped me decide to go down this path with my friends.
Cheers
Peter K
