New Zhodani 10 fighter, (Feedback applied)

wbyrd

SOC-13
I am working on a rework of the other desing, trying to incorporate some feedback from the readers. However i tried an angular desing, with the nice little swept forward structures and angled wignlets to try and giveit a more Zho-ish look..what do you think?

Zhodanii Type 127 Fighter.
One of the newest fighters deployed by the Zhodanii fleet, client states, and Allied forces. Type 125 Sh'zahg ( "Frightful shape", Imperium Code Name Zack) Is a Swift agile, and lethal fighter. reserved for More experienced pilots The Sh'zahg is named after a lethal ray like aquatic predator revered by the minor race native to the designers homeworld. The Sh'zahg made it's debut during a border dispute between a large mining concern and a Zhodani corporation. When The mining Concerns mercenary security forces fired on a transport severely damaging it. A single Zhodani Carrier and it's escorts were dispatch.

The Flights of Fighters launched by the Squadron disabled and nearly destroyed the four Mercenary cruisers in the area, and flattened the ground installation being contested by the two companies. Even with fighter support the four Broadswords were unable to deal with he massed missile and laser fire put out by several squadrons of fighters. In the end the mercenary cruisers were able to destroy several fighters, but they inflicted no harm what so ever on the carrier or its escorts as they hovered well outside of weapons range.

Like the Older 10 ton trilobite the Sh'zahg is lightly armoured, and has few defences, he pilot also sets in a sealed cockpit, with only narrow blow out panels covering vision slots to allow the pilot to operate if his electronics are destroyed, The Fighter does however have some pilot survival hardware built in to allow the pilot to eject in safety and survive for an extended period while waiting for pickup by his carrier vessel.

While more sophisticated than the Trilobite, the type 125 is still highly vulnerable to hostile fire, and it's pilots have only a marginal survival advantage over the older fighters. The Zhodani have put more attention to the weapons, and firecontrol systems of the newer fighter, but still seem to consider even experienced pilots as unfortunate casualties.

Notes: the type 125 is better suited to atmospheric combat, and has no penalties applied to sensors. When firing in fighter wings due to the accurate modification of the pulse laser the barrage fired by a fighter flight has an additional +1 modifier.

very dramatic. atmospheric?

I recognize the zho "theme", but I can't put my finger on what it is. perhaps the psi hazard they pose is best represented by the bio-hazard symbol, and this fighter begins to approach that shape. pointy, injecty, like a needle or probe ....

Very nice, my character would almost feel bad blowing one up. Almost. :D

That's as good a compliment as I could hope for :D
To Quote "The Greatest"
"I'm so pretty"
"I'm so fast that i turned the light switch off in my room and was in bed before it was dark."
"I'm so mean I make medicine sick."
"I float like a butterfly, I sting like a bee."

Oh great I invented the fighter Version of Ali....well maybe Sugar Ray..Ali was a Heavy Weight.

Thanks, oh yeah it'll get in Atmo with the best of them.I need to tweak it a bit to get things just right, but It's a good start.

See that the high yeld upgrade also gives a +1 to the barrage table (for a total of +2)

Being (according with description) one of their newer fighters, I wonder why the laser is TL 10 (the Zhodani being TL 14). With higher TL it could be upgraded to very high yeld (another +1) and variable range (allowing it to fire without modifier from close to médium range). Remember pulse lasers have an intrinsical -2 to fire (I guess the modifier in Changes to Core Rules Book, in HG page 47 applies), that is partially offset by having 2 dice damage, so avoiding DMs for distance could be quite helpful...

I restricted it to the +3 tech level rule...TL-7 base +3 tech levels.

I didn't specifically mention the intrinsic -2Dm, since it's assumed. When I figure up a ships attack modifiers for the chart I add in all the bonuses and penalties( programs, modifications, etc...) and put that number in one place or easy reference.
Attack DM+2/+1 (when firing Pulse lasers)

Hi,

I am puzzled as to why there are no penalties to sensors?

The lack of armour means high casualties and I would give it a better computer and associated fire control as well.

Love the diagram, it looks mean.

Kind Regards

David

That would be a case of the guy putting the chart together someone was trying to puzzle out the chart widgets and didn't spot a mistake he made while making changes to the design.

When I first worked this design out I used hightech systems to try to squeeze in a few things...but then since this is a military design I had to cut back to bring the cost down.

I had wanted to shoehorn in military sensors, but the costs added up for buying components at higher tech levels to reduce size to make room for the parts...so I had to go back and put in civilian sensors.
The TL-15 power plant would have freed up the space...but that would double the cost of the powerplant..so the bean counter axe fell hard...instead the half ton I had free in the design went to an escape pod.

the light armor and lack of high end firecontrol was another cost cutting measure. these are very light fighters to get thrust 12, and the lowest cost with the weapons, and features I wanted. I had to leave the armor low, and use only crystaliron for cost.

The extra couple of Million credits doesn't seem like much unless you factor the Beancounter vote spread out over tens of thousands of units the extra 3 million for armor, computer, and programs, adds up...

I am impressed, I tend to ignore budget constraints and squeeze as much in as possible (OK with Mongoose T computers taking up no room), but it's nice to see someone counting the credits.

I think I might 'adopt' this Fighter for a Pocket Empire type state,

Thanks

David

Thanks, trust me i go hog wild sometimes...trying to get a little bit more consistent in my internal rules for ship building :D

this is a sneak peak of some of my work for a warship source book I am working on while i wait for my commercial starship book to come out. so this design will not be the final in book design I'm afraid.:/

I dont mind if you want to use it..just be sure to keep it non profit use only....I want every penny for myself...MMUWAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA :p

When I finish up the design will be different I can just about assure you...and then there'll be tweaks, or differences between my concept stuff and the artist either I find, or my Publisher ( Hopefully Mongoose again :D)finds to do the final art
