Next TA : When ?

Hunter and MJD haven't had a lot of time to comment on the next products to come out, hard at work as they are. The next TAs, as I understand it, are TA8:Watercraft and TA9:Robots Of Charted Space. The artwork is still out on TA8, as it is for TA9, and it has been since late October/early November.

So I imagine that, once the art is in, there's another month involved with getting the TAs through layout and back again, so we're probably looking at late May, at the earliest, before we'll see the next one.

Mind you, this is based on old data, so things may be further along than I am aware of. Unfortunately, I only have previous announcements on the COTI boards, the most recent being in February, upon which to base this guesstimate on.

I imagine that, if you know any sci-fi artists, if they wanted freelance work, they should contact Hunter directly from his email addy under the Contacts portion of the main website. Based on Hunter's comments, that appears to be the biggest hold-up on QLI's production line at the moment.

Hope this helps,
Flynn

Would it help if they issued the TA as a draft without the artwork, like the Gateway sourcebook. It would keep the interest up and keep the money flowing in.

Just a suggestion

Cheers
Richard

Hehehe, wish I could answer that one. But all I do is help Martin out with some special projects, and write the occasional TA, so I'm not the one to ask.

I think QLI is right to wait for art, though. Most PDF products are rated heavily by the art that's present in them. Many people who buy them are visually-oriented and value the presence of artwork. I myself can work without art, but it does make the product look nicer, and more people will buy it.

Still, I am eager to see my TA published sometime soon. As my first freelance work for a professional publisher, TA9: Robots of Charted Space holds a very special place in my heart.

Looking forward to future releases,
Flynn

And I'm looking forward to the "Fighting Ships of the Solomani Confederation" TA - especially the art. There's support ships as well as fighting ships in the mix.

This Just In:

I asked MJD about the status on the upcoming TAs. Here's what he wrote back:

"TA8 art is in and it's in layout now. 9 is awaiting art."

Layout seems to take about a month or so, depending on the time table of the layout artist. So, if I were to guess, that'd put TA8 out before Memorial Day here in the States. It could possibly be sooner than that, as I don't know how far along in layout TA8 is, but I'm hedging my bets. Hopefully, it's sooner rather than later.

Hope this helps,
Flynn

I'm working on one - kind of- about Imperial Naval Bases. I'm nowhere near done, mostly due to lack of references.

Sorry about that... the American Memorial Day is celebrated on the last Monday of the month of May. This year, that is May 31st.

i.e. I suspect that TA8 will be out by the end of May.

Hope this helps,
Flynn

Subscriptions to TA would be more desirable if TA scheduling were more regular. So far I have loved what I have gotten from you folks, but it's awfully irregular.
Yes, I realize you probably hear this a lot. OK what can I do to be part of the solution instead of the problem?

Based on previous estimates, I'm thinking TA8: Watercraft should be available in two weeks now. It went into layout some few weeks back, and the usual turn-around for layout work (according to ePublishers over at ENWorld, anyway) is just under a month. Layout is, as I understand it, the last stage before the PDF is created and the book goes on sale.

Hopefully, there haven't been any complications to hinder the process. If so, I'm hoping that Hunter will keep us informed as he can.

Looking forward to it,
Flynn

Hunter,

Would you mind giving us an update on the release of TA8: Watercraft?

Given that TA8: Watercraft has been in layout since before April 17th, I am still hoping on seeing it roll out here within the next week or so. Still, I understand that QLI has been pretty busy with the release of the Gateway to Destiny Domain Sourcebook at the end of last month, so that may have put some things on hold. Additionally, there might be other activities that are going on behind the scenes that we are not yet aware of, that may also impact that schedule. That's why I'm asking, so that I know what to plan for.

Is there anything you need to help these things move along more rapidly? A layout professional? Extra editors? More artists? A full body massage by members of the Swedish Bikini Team? Anything we can spread the word about in an effort to help you locate the resources you need to bring these TAs to your customers?

Inquiring minds want to know,
Flynn

I do layout professionally. I would be willing to lend a hand for the TA's and Epics.

I mainly do layout in Quark Xpress. I also have Pagemaker BUT I HATE IT!

I'm fast and willing to help for next to nothing. Maybe some work in trade for mechandise as my day job pays me well enough (I do print design and video production).

I'm happy to help keep the game successful... because that means more fun for me and my gaiming group.

Talk to you later

Eric

Yay, Eric!

I think you can email Hunter directly via grip-at-rpgrealms-dot-com. Try writing him directly with the offer.

Wishing you the best of luck,
Flynn
