Central supply catalog

Know I missed one or two more.;)

With some of these special loads they mention they'd better have included the Traveller version of a Dillon progressive reloader and optional die sets in this book. :D

Thanks for the heads-up, Ty! Information density is where it's at for me.

Mongoose now has a preview of the CSC up, including a submachine gun variant...

It's a very "crowded" layout. I'd prefer a clearer separation between the picture, the blurp-text and the stat-box. The old Travellers Digest layout would IMHO be a lot easier on the eye.

And I'd say one page per weapon is a bit big, the picture is too dominating. Maybe A5-sized entries (two per page) would work better

I haven't seen the previews, but the draft that I got is fine. The mace section I mentioned has 12 weapons (each with a paragraph), 7 drawings and a chart in only two pages. Doesn't look crowded to me.

I note that they're now using the bold version of their original sans serif font (the reprints of Mercenary and High Guard use them too). Scala Sans light was the original font; Scala Sans bold is the current font. Anyhow, the original was too light when printed out. The bold face is a bit too dark IMHO. I don't really like that font, but I'd use the Scala Sans Regular for body text. The bold does make the page seem more crowded than it is.

I clicked on the link and the page is an "advertisement" -- it's not how the information is actually formatted. There are 4-5 of those pages in the game.

Just saw the two-page preview of S4: Central Supply Catalogue.

Judging from those two pages (and, I assume there's more "guts" in the book that isn't shown), I may have to agree.

Yes, folks. This is Supplement Four speaking.

I told you if Mongoose ever got its act together with respect to Traveller, I'd sing its praises.

That's all you have to do to please me, Mongoose: Turn out quality material.

It's too early to tell, but judging from those two pages, I think this is going to be Mongoose's first winner. The illos. look dead-on. I also trust TBeard's opinon of the extended look he got to see.

This does, indeed, look like a good Traveller supplement.

Is it possible that Mongoose is actually going to find it's "Traveller Groove" and beging producing stellar supplements?

I do hope so.

What I see in the preview does look promising.

Well, for them to produce stellar Traveller supplements. They will need to playtest & proofread things over a longer period of time which will be an irratation to some fans but most would welcome it, if there was a timetable involved...say 4 supplements a year (ideally more but then you get quality issues again). The the second thing they will need is quality writers who know Traveller (and that is a disappearing commodity).

Therefore, what I submit to you, is that Mongoose Traveller is establishing its own grove and plowing into territory unchartered. This is exciting for those who loved JTAS' influence on CT. Those who want to design their own universe...might not like it as much. It is our obligation as fans to tell the company how to improve and hope that they can hire writers who can live up to the challenge.

So while I mourn the loss of the integrity of the Official/Original Traveller Universe. I am not sure what I am mourning. Is it that I mourn that people do not know the things like debates that raged between Battleriders & Battleships throughout the HIWG's history or the inner politics of SUSAG as revealled by JTAS#xxx or that Emperor Stephon has a niece named Margaret or that Ursu have no place in a Hard SF universe... Traveller has been always about change or at least when the LBBs were deemed inadequate for describing an entire universe that my imagination only partially grasped and the other part needed to be feed by others.

This Central Supply Catalogue will go a long way in detailling and filling that imaginary. Until now, I largely relied upon the CT FCI Consumer Guide from FASA. So, let us hope that everything looks as good as the preview.

One of my regrets is that Paranoia Press never got around to publishing their announced product 'Ryker's Catalogue of Arms'.

Are you sure...I might have a copy of one. Or was it something else...it had Ryker in the title for sure. But, it was not what you expected it too be.

Paranoia Press' releases are an excellent reason why I think we should give Mongoose Traveller more time. These products would make any grognard devoted to the OTU shriek (Assassins & Scouts or Beyond replete with Black Holes) that: "THESE PRODUCTS ARE NOT TRAVELLER..." but time has sufficiently passed and people have incorporated the best and forgot the rest.

the Serpent class, while I got ahold of it in BoJTAS, originates in PP's S&A... and is a sweet map.

Best thought out deckplan of the classic era, IMO.

Best thought out deckplan of the classic era, IMO.

But, the best looking deckplan from all of Traveller, any edition, is the Beowulf in DGP's SOM.

Yeah, I've heard the plan itself has got problems, but Mongoose should be delivering plans that looks like that....not like what GDW gaves us in the 70's.

Not Traveller? But they clearly stated: "Approved for use with Traveller" right on the cover.

Okay, just kidding. Back in the day, I could probably have had my dog 'Approved for use with Traveller', despite the fact she ate my copy of Prison Planet. Still, I have a love for maps and deckplans, and come to think of it, dear old Judges Guild used to provide quite a lot of 'chrome' for my adventurers to run around in or on.

The Beowulf in SOM is a nice looking but badly broken plan.

But I like functional, put the counters on it, map. And the PP Serpent has been the single most used deckplan in MTU... I give it to PC's when they have 2 Type S receipts. (WIth 3, I add survey sensors and a FPP.)
