One Page Dungeon: The Lanisha Crisis

So, there's this One Page Dungeon Contest they've been doing for four years now. I entered last year with a fantasy entry, but this year I'm running Traveller Hero so I wanted to do a One Page scenario I could actually use. I had this idea last year, but of course I didn't work on it until a week before the due date. I figured I'd post it here; sorry if it feels rushed.

Here's the link to my submission, the Lanisha Crisis. I've made some additional materials, which I've posted to my generic gaming blog here and here. I plan to make a Classic Traveller style deckplan as well. Comments would be welcome.

Did I miss something? Because the PDF only displays a portion of the intro.

I gather that it is the entire entry. The map is the main part (the dungeon) and whatever text you can fit on the rest of a single page is supporting information.

You have it exactly right, sir! I was going for a kind of tabletop effect; as I said it was something of an experiment in playing around with the format. I liked the idea of hinting at things with the props (the Marquis' business card, the stacks of cash) and supplying needed information I couldn't figure out how to include in a "news article" (the rescue ball package label) while sticking to the format. I wrestled with how much detail I could put on the map and sadly decided to go minimal -- I just can't see there being that much info in an Emergency Exit placard, even if you mark it up.

I'm a little sad I didn't have enough time to do justice to the spaceship writeup itself beforehand. I'm sure it's way off, but I had to make something original, and I thought there could be room for an in-system shuttle larger than the 30-ton versions I always see in use in adventures. I figured this was more equivalent to a transatlantic airplane -- lots of people packed in for a 12- to 18-hour flight to the next planet/belt out- or in-system.

I think it's really good.

It reminds me of the way they did a simmilar layout for scenarios in White Dwarf back in the day.

Best regards,

Ewan

Thank you, sir! That's high praise -- I think the layouts from WD Traveller adventures were great! The only problem I ever had was they tended to use gray shaded backgrounds and tiny text/finely-drawn images, which made it really hard to make out details sometimes. I figure by offering the parts separately, I can avoid that issue!

Ah, well, the results are in and I didn't win. Not surprised at that, but I was surprised at the sci-fi adventure that did win -- not one of my favorites.

There's always next year. Now, to just get some people from the CotI boards to submit adventures to make it even better! :)
