Packet Freighter Picture (WIP)

Skipjack

only one thing I'd change is the M drive ..Up it to 2G performance..very little lost in volume and much gained in utility.

Version 1 is complete!

Ship has 7 hardpoints, but no weapons are fitted. This is mostly because I focused so much on the core design, I didn't think about where the turrets would go.

The cargo is a double deck zone, and when the ship is in water, can be flooded to allow cargo to float into the bay. Perhaps in a later iteration of the model, I can model the doors in properly along with some popup turrets.

Enjoy.

Extreamely impressive presentation ..I like it a lot..the port reminds me very much of the Azores ...(just outside the Straights of Gibraltor heading into the Med) very nice very well done

It's ok, and M-1 is standard for traders (M-2 might be reasonably accessible, but there's often no reason for it).
Actually, there's almost never any use for jump-1, the biggest exception being ships that are solely employed jumping back and forth between the same two worlds. There may be a few clusters of worlds where a jump-1 trader can be sure of always getting cargo for somewhere within jump-1 range, but whenever cargo has to be moved more than one parsec, jump-2 (or jump-3) will be both cheaper and faster than sending it by jump-1. (And jump-4 won't be that much more expensive than jump-1 that it won't be worth considering in order to get it there four time faster). That much-touted stable of free traders, going from one end of a main to another, is certainly not an economically sound business practice for jump-1 ships.

Unless, that is, it doesn't have to pay off a loan. A jump-1 tramp merchant can compete, provided it's a 40+ year old paid-up ship that used to be employed on a jump-1 back-and-forth route and now, not being hampered by crippling bank charges, can afford to undercut the competition and charge the same for two jumps that a new ship would have to charge for one.

I'll join the bellowing herd...Awsome! The Submarine appearance is brilliant.

I was wondering if you had a purpose in mind for those 8 hatch-like sections at the bow, midline just ahead of the star.

Missle ports, like a Soviet boomer?

PS may I use her in my campaign?

The grey nose cone and the first dark band are where the bow doors are located. If I had thought about it harder, I would have modeled those properly earlier in the design process.

If you mean the ridge running along the top, that's just for artistic reasons to make it look a little more interesting.

PS may I use her in my campaign?

Of course!

I've just realised that you were looking at the first draft picture.!!

The panels you refer to are the original cargo doors, but once I realised how big the cargo area was, changed it so that the nose section was the doors.

The PDF download has an updated version of the design.

Sorry about the confusion!

No confusion, I just was curious. The looked nifty.

Now to grab the PDF. Hopefully that's an Adobe format, rather than the initials for Planetary Defence Force.

I know you do good work, been a follower of cambrianmoons for a few years, but this is very cool indeed. Not to mention usable by us pleabes.

I'd love to see a PDF of this with T5 numbers.
