Passenger allocation on small craft

madmike

SOC-12
Undertaking some re-design and deck plan re-drafting of my CT small craft currently to bring them in line with Mongoose Traveller.

One thing I am perplexed about is the cabin space 1.5dT allowance per passenger as per MgT Highguard design sequence rules.

Those rules state that that allowance is needed for a passenger in moderate comfort.

Personally, I consider that 1.5dT, even considering life support, is far too much. I would consider an allocation amount within a dedicated passenger transport as low as 0.5dT per passenger as per CT:HG rules.

Thoughts on this?

edit: MgT High Guard errata solved this for me. 0.5dT/passenger is appropriate!

My thoughts run along the lines of the old Classic Traveller rules ...

0.5 dT per person for a chair and life support for up to about 8-12 hours
... (like travelling First Class on an airplane)

2 dT per person for a small craft stateroom and life support for several days
... (like travelling on a railroad sleeper car)

4 dT per person for a starship stateroom and life support for weeks or months
... (like travelling on a cruise ship).

Personally, I like to set "life support" at about 0.125 to 0.25 dT per person divided between the air filter/HVAC type life support and the food/water storage type life support (using MegaTraveller or FF&S if it REALLY matters for some reason). I set the actual seat/stateroom space at 50% of the dedicated space. The rest is flexible space that I get to play with for commons or galleys or refreshers or anything else that I can think of that belongs on the ship.

MgT (don't know about other versions off the top of my head)
What I don't care for is the lack of life support and maintenance costs on small craft (unless this is addressed in high guard or errata). The stateroom on a ship requires cr2000/mo even if unoccupied. A small craft like the 40 ton pinnace appears to be capable of handling 11 passengers and two crew for "extended missions" up to perhaps two weeks with no life support or monthly maintenance costs provided.

IMO the lack of information does not imply the life support and maintenance costs should be zero. What do you all think?

Should there be a life support cost based on the passenger allocation on small craft?

Does packing the passengers in tighter make it easier on the life support system since there is less air volume to condition and circulate?

or

Does packing the passengers in tighter put a larger strain on filters and other life support components? Require them to be changed more often? Be "beefier" and more expensive?

There are certainly some glaring gaps in costs and allocations.

I am happy to make the assumption at this stage that 0.5dT per "seat" is enough to allow for life support requirements and some extra room for a small galley and fresher.

My old CT:HG designed small craft suffer from conversion into MgT:HG. They are close enough to CT, but I have had to make more adjustments than I was expecting.
