plop101?

Haven't heard from him in a while, but I've feared the worst on two previous occasions...

Chemo can be pretty harsh as far as getting *anything* (including reading) done.

Of course good wishes have never hurt!

Does anyone know exactly what his cancer was? I want to give the profits from this years calendar to an appropriate charity.

Yes, a bunch. Amongst the worst is astrocytoma... the starfish-shaped tumor invades many functional parts of the brain, and is nearly impossible to remove completely without redering the patient vegetile. Lost a friend to that not long ago.

I know plop101 did say it was a deep seated tumour (i.e. right inside the brain) which would make it very difficult to treat, but I don't recall him actually giving the clinical name/diagnosis.

And still no word from him......... I got everything crossed for him here ......

Andy:

Cancer rates do seem to be on the rise.

And there is no causality link between smoking and cancer, only a contributory one. (In fact, aside from genetics, few things have actualy been shown to cause cancers besides bad genetics and radiation....) A lot of things increase one's risk of cancer.

Well, aramis, one study I remember came to the conclusion that everything causes cancer. The question was level of toxicity and whether your particular level of toxicity was reached before something else killed you. They admitted that since different people had different levels of toxicity, it wasn't very helpful except in the general sense. :(

Ever play Civilization? The computer game, not the older board version? Don't remember the first version, but Civ II and up have the "Cure for Cancer" wonder of the world.

And another good thread books passage for The Pit* :nonono:

Really folks, the line is fine, tread lightly. Not pointing fingers but these innocent enough and well merited threads don't deserve to be consigned to The Pit. If you have to look over the edge in your reply just go start a new thread there instead, OK?

* the Political Pulpit forum, a great place to make your points on subjects prone to combustion and immolation :smirk:
