Pocket Empires

Antony

SOC-13
I am looking at playing out the futures of the Pocket Empires I have in the Banners sector. I have the T4 PE book and was wondering if anyone had adapted it to a TNE setting.

Altering the task system should not be a problem but the military and fleet set ups are different.
Any ideas people? ;)

How much detail do you want to go into. There are tables that equate FFW counters to world TL and population and TCS is always a good bet. i think that TCS said that a trillion credits gets you an imperial battle squadron.

As for converting resource units into MCr, the pocket empire book gives you RU costs for starport updates. The challenge magazine article tells you how many Mcr to get the various classes of starport, so that may give you an RU/MCR ratio. Not tried it myself. I

I have a small pocket empire the Madoc / Khulam subsectors of diaspora, and using the pocket empire numbers most of my planets have RU outputs in very small fractions. I am using the rules from the world tamers handbook to work out how much production my worlds can make.

The main change that would be necessary is scale.

In TNE, a relic Imperial destroyer is a major strategic asset, while PE deals with whole battle squadrons.

This isn't an insurmountable problem: just divide everything by a hundred!

Lo, how the mighty have fallen. Look on my works and despair...blah blah blah.

I'm glad I missed TNE.

Actually, I think this was a bit of the setting/philosophy that is represented in CT Kinuniur module where 4 DDs of the size of the Kinuniur (small) can defend a subsector.

So you didn't really miss that part, you just passed through it.

I think the fact Marc was a sociology major and the whole cyclical rise and fall of nations always fascinates those ones has led us through the various eras we see to today... ;)

Yes, and I remember those days. Using just LBB 1-3 we thought the K was a major warship.

"So you didn't really miss that part, you just passed through it."

With eyes half open like most things in life.

"I think the fact Marc was a sociology major and the whole cyclical rise and fall of nations always fascinates those ones has led us through the various eras we see to today..."

Interesting to know but he may have just chosen that particular major because it left him more time to design and play games.

Just thinking about converting the pocket empires resource units etc. to something you can use.

Take a J1 troop transport unit (J1 / T1) which takes a couple of RUs (from memory). You can estimate how much it would cost to build such a ship (to carry a battalion / regiment / division (can't remember how big a PE troop unit is). That should give you some idea how much an RU is in relation to Mcr spend for ships. This should allow you to define a naval budget which you can then assign to your ships.

How is your pocket empire going anyway?

What I'd thought I would do with the PEs in the Banners sector is use the "Pocket Empires" book for future construction but base the existing fleets and military structure on what survived the virus induced collapse.

As far as the PEs themselves the Alston League recently arrested the first officer of the FFX-12 Gannon on treason charges (appears he was working for the Czarate of Delsun). But the big news is the finding of the Cause Rampant, an azhanti High Lightning class cruiser missing since 1103. Its captain (the only survivor, the player is an Andromeda fan) managed to miss the entire rebellion era. He is now trying to work out a way to enter Alston League space without being shot at or have the cruiser "impounded" by someone.

I too am running a TNE T20 campaign based around a pocket empire. I picked up a copy of T4 Pocket Empires off a closeout rack.
Its been useful for designing empires and getting a feel for their assets. The nice thing is in TNE the empires have inherited a certain amount of material (or smash and grab). So part of the navy funds can go to maintenance instead of initial construction.

just been reading Pocket empire, and found a useful note.

1RU = 5,000Mr which is about 4 and a bit kinuirs

there is a table in the back that lists the number of RUs to buy defences forces. I think it is 50 for a jump point and 50 for an attack point at TL15. This is about 250,000 Mcr for an attack point or a quarter of an Imperial Battle squadron (from TCS)

This seems to be on par with the imperial colonial naval counters and their distribution from FFW.

Cheers

OK I have worked out the value of the Alston League navy at around 0.004 RU! Obviously they can afford to build a lot more ships with a local RU being worth 1 Alston RU = 6357.279085 MCr
So this fleet would currently have an effective rating of A0 D0 T0 J0. Of in terms of PE non existant. (It's OK I will be using Battle Rider for spacebattles anyway)

However what do I do about the other armes of service like;

Alston Ground Force Command
57 Elite Divisions - All TL14
174 Line Divisions - Mixed TL12/11 Equipment
347 Light/Reserve Divisions - All TL11
5 Independent Special Forces Battalions - All TL14

Then the COACC and Wet Navies which are pre-defined by Path of Tears. Any ideas?
