Pondering Containers...

Here is an overview of the Star Citizen cargo ships.

Different aesthetic and capabilities then Traveller- most trips are less then an hour, multi system will be a few hours at most, so very few proper staterooms- flop beds and snack galleys are the norm.

Also, this is what we would think of as a jump capable small craft universe with something like 5-10x cheaper ships. The big giveaway is the cargo capacity- an SCU is a cubic meter box. Small package trade, literally. Very handy for players in a video game, horrendous tare weight and volume limitations vs cargo carried. They do have a TEU container for the bigger ships like the MISC Hull series, the external mount cargo haulers.

This is a video highlighting the floor hatch of the constellation series. Most of our ships just don’t have bellies with that much clearance. Could be a very good approach for our small craft. Note the launch bay for the snub fighter.

We have been driving a lot on the Indiana Toll Road and Ohio Turnpike of late, and the number of trucks on these routes is amazing. I would imagine that the Imperium or any other interstellar group would have standardized containers, and the ability to move them all over a planet. I have a grav container hauler based on either the CH-37 Mojave or the CH-54 Tarhe, for picking up and hauling containers.
