Poser?

Has anyone ever tried to make Traveller Aliens in Poser or other Rendering software? I would think this would greatly compliment all of the Traveller digital art that's currently out. Is anyone on here good at Poser? I've tried it before, but I think I'd need a tutorial or something...

For human looking characters it is good. You would need to find 3rd party models for different looking creatures. Poser does not make it easy to radically change the models other than size and scale. This is not a slam against the software as it makes doing characters models very easy.

if you use blender...

you could use the old 'MakeHuman' script
then use 'sculpt' mode to make a new target mesh
I've never done it...but I think it'd work.

I like those!

One of the things I had in mind when I posted this was to make a Digital Race ToolKit of sorts that anyone could use if they wanted to make some Digital Travellers. There's just so much stuff out there that could be used to illustrate adventurers better. Besides, I always wanted to see what I'd look like in a Scout Uniform.

Here's a nice page with and Aliens and Robots section. It has a 'Pug the Slug' that makes me think that Hivers and Dandies and Races like that are doable in Poser. Check it out:

I made a Varg and a hiver. I did basic rigs on both the Varg and the Hiver. One thing about poser. Making a rig with a new character is a challenge in Poser I have not had success with it and i don't like using pre made content. I use a program called Messiah It is much better for rigging and rendering you have to make your own content but hey that is half the fun.

Check out the book "Secrets of Figure Creation with Poser 5" by B.L. Render. Gives you in depth coverage of building figures and conforming clothing. It would be safe to say that making your own figures, UVMapping them and rigging is non-trivial, which of course is why there is such a vibrant marketplace for selling figures.
