Is there also an automatic block on gmail accounts? When I was trying to sign up last month, at first I was completely blocked, with a message that said that my email address was banned - which made no sense, as I have never been a member here before, nor ever been banned from any other site.

I got around that by using a different address in a domain of my own, that feeds into my games/SF-oriented gmail box, but it was a small delay.

yes, and has been since before I was admin. I didn't realize it was there.

gmail.com and gmail.ru are both long-time banned.
