Pretty Cool Art

The book I first saw his work in was called Expedition which was a fictional survey of a planet called Darwin IV. I think it was PBS that did a CGI version of the story.

Here's a Google search:

You might recognize his creatures in the movies Pitch Black and Avatar.

EDIT: Sorry, it wasn't Pitch Black.

Creature and character designs for Galaxy Quest, Titan A.E., Hellboy, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, The Day the Earth Stood Still, and Avatar.

Not quite Hiver but real close; Hivers don't have knees!

Regardless, that guy is really good; I plan to pillage that site for ideas when I have more time. Imitation is the highest form flattery after all.

If they're not Hivers, they are DARNED CLOSE. Nice work.

They aren't Hivers. These things are more centauroid by the looks of it, and also appear to be bilaterally symmetric (and they have four petals and four eyes, not five). The similarity is probably down to the flower-like head and the eyes arranged between the petals.

Here is a better view. http://www.alexries.com/Gallerypages/gal-protest.htm

And yes, his style is very Barlowe-esque. Which is good IMO. :D

Manipulation of genetics to manipulate culture.

Sneak a colony onto a world on the border of K'Kree space, with fake artifacts indicating they are more ancient than either Hiver or K'Kree artifacts on their "home" worlds.
