Q about CT PDF Formats

What do these files look like? Are they scans of the original CT books? Are they in the original "LBB" size, or "two pages" per page?

Hows the quality of these PDFs? How do they compare to the printed versions? (Can you even get the 8 books volume still?)

Can you print them?

Yes, you can print (and the print quality is equal to the original books). They are simply scans of the LBBs, and are LBB size in the files. (IOW, you would have to tell your printer to print 2-to-a-page.) For the most part, they copy and paste adequately, though you won't be able to grab a whole page and have it come out right.

Evidently, there are a few of the books (not LBBs1-8) that do not have a good quality of scan. I have not yet looked at those on my CD.

Looking at the back of the container (like a DVD container), I find this listing.
(comments and break down my work. The cover just has them listed from top to bottom)

LLB format: Books 0 - 8; supplements & adventures 1 - 13 (and adventure 0); double adventures 1 - 6, special supplements 1 - 3. I haven't tried printing any of these yet, but they appear to run in numerical order from top of the page to the bottom. To get them side by side like the reprint series will need a little work on your part.

MT format: ALIEN MODULES 1 - 8, The Traveller Book (Blue cover vol 1) & Adventure (red cover vol 2), MODULES (includes: Tarsus (boxed), Beltstrike (boxed), The Spinward Marches Campaign, Alien Realms, Atlas of the Imperium). These are the full magazine sized pages. I have printed off some of these and each page fits properly on a 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of typing or printer paper.

Then there are the BOARDGAMES:
G00 Imperium.
G01 Mayday. -Rules. -Maps and Counters.
G02 Snapshot. -Rules. -Counters and Maps. -Maps.
G03 Azhanti High Lightning. -Rules. -Deck Plans. -Counters and Charts.
G04 Fifth Frontier War.
G05 Invasion: Earth. -Rules. -Charts and Counters. -Map.
G06 Dark Nebula. -Rules and Charts. -Maps and Counters.
G07 Striker Miniatures Rules. -Book 1. -Book 2. -Book 3. -Book 4.

"More than 3000 pages of searchable text"

Note: The files print off very well, but some of the reading is mildly distorted when viewed on the computer screen. I have had this for less than a week, but I am very pleased with the value I recieved.

Actually, most printers seem to handle "Page Layout" printing (2 pages on one side of a piece of paper, side-by-side, LBB size) nowadays. (It may also simply say something like "number of pages per sheet".) You will simply have to find where in your Preferences that choice resides. You can also try "Booklet" (fold it in half and you have a LBB size pamphlet) format if your printer does duplex printing. It should be in the same place as the "Page Layout" printing.

Rumor has it that some of the pages are out of order and/or some of the scans aren't that clear. Is this an accurate assessment?

Yeah, there are a few glitches, but you try scanning 3000 pages...

I'm not trying to hammer anyone, I'm just trying to get a feel for whether or not it's worth getting. And barring being able to look at it before hand, there's really only opinion and RUMINT to go by.

I have it, and am well pleased with my purchase. If you are a fan of CT and don't already have a complete set of the books this set is of major value to you.

Actually I do have almost every CT book but the thought of the PDF format and getting ahold of the various related games is highly tempting.

I had almost all of the books myself, but kept being nagged by not having a complete set. :p

Actually, I'm glad that they're not side by side.

My thinking was to get it and see if I could get the first 8 printed in "LBB" size, but spiral bound in to a single Big LBB at Kinkos or something.

Maybe the "booklet" mode will facilitate that, print the sheets properly, then it's simply a matter of folding and getting them reasonably lined up and sheared before binding.

And I didn't realize it came with Striker and the board games. I have an unpunched FFW game at home.

Easily done. The PDFs are already formated for the LBB printing process.

Now I just have to save up my change change so I can get some of the other CDs as well.

Kodos to all who helped with this project

Just wondering if we are ok with taking Marc's PDF's and some of the others to Kinkos for printing. It would save wear and tear on my printer not to mention ink.

Any ballpark ideas of the cost as well?
