Questions, Questions, everyday

I am sure these have been answered in other threads but I havn't found them so here I goes again.......

P238 of THB in regards to vehicle design, chassis streamlining specifically, it states in the description that streamlining sacrifices some interior space. This is not specified
any where else that I can find. Is this an indication of a missing table?

Same page, regarding drive trains- is one unit the minimum installable, or are drive trains able to be broken down into smaller components? I designed a remote probe at 40vL and with 1 grav dtu, it eats up more vL than I want and gives it a max speed of 2500 kph, which is a bit faster than I really need. It also eats up an entire EP, which
requires a larger powerplant for the entire vehicle, again something to avoid.

Turrets for vehicles- 1.2vL per 1vL in the turret? So does installing a 100vL turret cost
120vL or 220vL? A 100vL heavy turret is 140vL or is it 240vL?

The drive units for spaceships / starships brings up the same question as DTU's. If I only
need .02 drive units, do I have to install 1 ton of drive? If I need 100 drive units are these
separate drives or can I make 1 REALLY BIG drive?

Thats all for now
tanks!

1. The statement that streamlining takes interior space is in error. It doesn't. Except if you get TA6 (Against Gravity) where there are three additional levels of streamlining which do take space.

2. The design system was built around the idea that drive units are installed in 1 unit increments only. But it's never stated anywhere. So install whatever fraction of a DTU you like.

3. Installing a 100vl turret requires 120vl. A 100vl heavy turret is 140vl.

4. In theory you may install fractional starship drive units as well.

The Drive units from spaceships are not the same as the Drive Units from Vehicles. You can not interchange them. See TA6 (Against Gravity) for an example vehicle which attempts to do this, and why it doesn't work.

In regards to breaking down Drive Trains:

Yeah, you can do it. Like Tjoneslo says, only because it doesn't say you can't. I like this though, it allows you to make really, really tiny 'robotic' toys. Yeah, I have WAY too much time on my hands.

Keep in mind though, it DOES state that power plants are listed in their smallest possible unit size. This means that, if a power plant is listed as being 5vls for 1EP, you can't have one smaller than 5vl. However, you can have one that is 5.5, or 7, or 11.9, or 17.3456vl. Just not smaller than 5. So even if you need less than 1EP, you still need the minimum size power plant.

Tanks guys! those are the last sticky spots in the design rules for me, as long as one doesn't try to meld them of course :D

errr... damn. got stuck again....... anyone notice the spinal mounts do not seem to make sense? am i missing something?

ah trah so haad tuh beh optehmistic.....*sigh*
