Reaper Miniatures Bones Kickstarter

Some friends turned me on to this last night. It's in its final hours now:

Reaper Miniatures: Bones, An Evolution of Gaming Miniatures

At the $100 level you get a ridiculous number of miniatures now because of the number of stretch goals met. I think it comes in at less than US$0.50 per mini.

Included in the package are some of the Chronoscope minis, some of which I've used for Traveller in the past, as well as IMEF Marines and NOVA minis that are perfect for troops in Trav.

We had a discussion about the Swords and Wizardry game that's supposed to be based on the "original rules" that preceded the published D&D here a while ago. I have no idea if they're legit or not, but I guess I'll get to find out what they look like since they're packing in a copy with my rewards.

If you use minis, especially fantasy ones, (or like using fantasy minis for animal encounters  ), this is a killer deal if you can get in in the next 18 hours or so.

S&W is a pretty tight retroclone of little-book D&D+Chainmail, sans the alternate combat system.

There are a lot of retroclones, tho' - S&W's big schtick is the use of the Chainmail Fantasy Supplement rules instead of the 1d20 Alternate Combat System (which became the standard combat rules with Holmes' Basic D&D).

That'll suit me fine, then. I do everything I can to get groups to try out using an all-D6 version of OD&D. I manage it about once every five years.

It's fun when we manage it.

The group I originally played with held out against polys until about a year after Greyhawk came out. I guess we were proto-old-school curmudgeons when we were in our teens. ;)

I was going to go for it right before the end of the campaign. Of course, that's when the Kickstarter server crashed. Oh, well.

Yeah, the KS network crashed and the Reaper one did, too. Each for just a short while, but at a crucial time.

Two of the people at our game tonight were cursing their luck at trying to get in too late, too.

It is such a sweet deal. About 42 cents per mini at the $100 level. Almost makes me wish I'd taken one of the retail packages.

My wife and I came in on the Vampire Level ($100). Note that Reaper will be allowing additions (with Paypal Payments) to pledger's bonuses due to that crash which happened once Cthulhu arrived.

Some good Travelleresque figures in the pile and the others will feed our d&D and Runequest campaign needs.

For what you pay and the rich booty that you get, one cannot complain at all :)

Reaper were doing a thing on their message boards for people who missed the end of the Kickstarter due to the server issues. If you're interested you may want to head over to their forums and check the conditions. I believe it was letting people have what the pledges on the Kickstarter were for a couple of days.

$3.4 million, and people say the hobby industry is dying.

Reaper Minis Late Opt-In

http://www.reapermini.com/ks/

Folks who missed the original Kickstarter can still get in for a couple more days. The price for the $100 Kickstarter rewards will be $150 and other items will be 20% over the original Kickstarter amount, but they are still available to those who do an email sign-up, at much below retail.

Retail on the Vampire package is projected to be just below $500.

At the link above, entering your email lets you opt-in when the purchase application goes up on the Reaper site, you're not committing to buying anything yet.
