[Reprints] JTAS Vol 1

I have a bit of a question about this particular volume. I recently purchased it, and I am enjoying it, since it allows me to see the complete issues from before I started with Issue #8.

In Issue #3, the Mining the Asteroids article (page 14-22) has a flowchart to use for simulating the process of permitting and mining the asteroids. It shows white boxes of text on a black background. I get the feeling that there should be lines connecting the boxes, but the B&W reproduction of the page makes the lines invisible. Are there such lines? Is there a chance of a color scan being done, or a different reproduction of the chart so the lines are visible?

I think it would be a lot of fun to add a mining expedition for my players, and this could add to the excitement if I could figure it out.

Thanks, and keep up the great work!

I have a dog-eared copy of Best of the Journal vol.1, In which the astriod mining flow chart you speak of appears.Yes! The black and white copy in FFE 6 dosen't show the lines that should be there.

You don't get to see the Black lines ,against the red background, between the white boxes....

unfortunately, the number of arrows is high enough that it'd be difficult to just tell you where they go, though I'll try. all arrows noted are outbound from the noted box to the nearest in that direction and line:

Apply for license: 7- goes down, 8+ right to Licence Granted

Offer Bribe: 5- goes down, 6-9 goes left, 10+ goes right.

License Granted: from circle to right only.

Application Denied: 3- goes up, 4-6 goes right, 7 goes right to make Special App, 8-9 goes down, 10+ goes down to Decide...without License

Consider Bribe: 5- goes left, 6-7 goes right, 8+ goes up.

Make Special Application: 8- goes left to App Denied, 9+ goes up.

Seek Patron: 4- goes up, 5-8 goes right, 9+ goes down.

Patron Assists: 9- goes down, 10+ goes up.

Decide...without License: 5- goes up, 6+ goes right.

Decide...in Belt Fringe: from circle goes right

Select Area: 4- goes down, 5-8 goes down-right to Prospect (high), and 9+ goes right.

Move to current: 3- goes left, 4-7 goes down, 8+ goes right.

Move to Rumored: 6- goes left, 7-9 goes down-left to Prospect (high), 10-12 goes down to Rest and..., 13+ goes down to Strike!

Move to Trojan: 4- goes down to Need Refueling, 5-6 goes up, 7-8 goes down to Move to Fringe, 9+ goes right to Prospect (high).

Prospect (high): 5- goes left, 6-8 goes down, 9+ goes right.

Rest and...: 5- goes up, 6-10 goes left to Prospect (high), 11+ goes left to Prospect (low).

Move to Fringe: 4- goes down, 5 goes up, 6-7 goes right to Danger, 8+ goes right to Prospect (low).

Prospect (low): 8- goes up to Prospect (high), 9-11 goes down, 12+ goes right.

Danger: 5- goes down-right to End, 6-9 goes down, 10+ goes up.

Strike!: goes down from circle only.

Refuel: 7- goes up-right to Danger, 8+ goes up to Move to Fringe.

Need Refuelling: 10- goes up, 11+ goes right to End.

Disaster: no out arrows (cue ominous music).

End Expedition: no out arrows.

That help?

I've got a copy of JTAS #3...somewhere.

Perhaps someone would be willing to scan the original and post it online?

Hmm, it was in Best of JTAS #1, eh? Well, maybe if I can find my Little Black Box I can find that issue. If I can, I would gladly scan it and make a .pdf of it, if I am granted permission to do so.

I would not want to post such a thing without permission, I have seen too many people get in trouble doing that.
