Rolling less than 0 during generation

I just got CT 2ed books 1 - 5 and I started rolling up a subsector. I have the subsector about half done, but I've hit a snag (I think). A few times I've ended up with a 2 for the planets size, and then rolled a 2 for the atmo (that's a straight 2, without any DMs). Well, the formula for the atmo is throw(2) - 7 + planet size(2) for an atmo rating of -5. So far I've treated everything lower than 0 as a 0, but is that correct?

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'll probably post more questions later related specifically to character creation. I'm running through a couple characters to compare the Basic character creation with the Advanced character creation and will probably have questions regarding advanced (Basic generation was so well written that I have very few questions about how things work there, and the step by step direction at the end was great, but Advanced... if nothing else it reads as more convoluted).

You're welcome. Don't hesitate to ask anything, lot of helpful folk here who've been through it willing to answer.

Welcome, fellow Traveller.

(You'll probably want to get a copy of the classic Traveller CD-Rom soon...)

(Though I envy you having the actual LBB's for Books 4 and 5....) :)

Jeffr0: Books 4 and 5 have been on ebay a lot the last few weeks (that's where I got them), it's 6,7, and 8 that are hard to track down.

I suppose this is related (though now I don't recall if I imagined it happening). If you roll over the available values on the planet table and there isn't a slot for it, do you just write it down as the highest listed value?

It seems that I recall reading a section that mentioned "if you roll a 12 add a DM-4" in that section, would that be in addition to the default -7?

I'll have my books with me soon so I'll verify the section then to verify that I'm not thinking of something from somewhere else.

Yep, Dragon Master. The Traveller CD-ROM contains the entire GDW Traveller line....for $35 bucks.

You can have the entire game line for the price of one new book.

EDIT: Oh, and if you like planet building, be sure to track down Grand Census and Grand Survey, both published by Digest Group Publishing (DGP). They are excellent.

They're also rare, so if you find them, they'll probably be pricey. But, worth it, imo, especially if you like world building. Those two books expand on what you get in Book 6 - Scouts.

You can also get DGP's MegaTraveller version of those books (called the World Builder's Handbook), but I prefer GC and GS for Classic Traveller. WBH will work, though.

Indeed, that's correct. As LBB3 Worlds and Adventures does not include the extended Atmosphere types (D, E, F, all found in LBB 6 Scouts), Government codes (E, F, found in MegaTraveller) and Law Levels above A (also found in Mega Traveller), just go with the highest value listed in the table you're using. Or you could make up your own.

I don't recognise that rule from LBB 3, but normally in WorldGen DMs stack on top of the usual 2D-7 + <whatever> throws.

Looks like I misremembered the section (though not by much). It isn't the atmosphere, it's the hydrographics. And it isn't exactly roll a 12, it's "if atmo is 0, 1 or A+" apply DM-4.

Thanks for the reply.
