Having just received my copies of JTAS 1-12 and JTAS 13-24, :D :D :D (I love them).

I've been thumbing throw them reading the Amber Zone articles.

(my gaming group wont know what hit them)

Does anyone here think that the MCr5 in the down ship is a little low for the pay of the sector navy personnel? ;)

Even if you say all the ships in the doomed fleet where carrying equal parts of the pay, that only brings the pay up to MCr25. (! ship survived and 4 had been lost {including the crash ship)).

It's a bit of a strange idea that wages would be delivered in that way in the first place

Electronic credit transfer via the X-boat or naval courier system would be more sensible, IMHO.

Anyway, back to the question. The amber zone adventure pre-dates the first major shift in the OTU over to multi kiloton Imperial fleets. It's often been quoted that the Spinward Marches were protected by a few (four?) Kinunir Battle Cruisers plus support vessels, such as the Gazelle CE which was introduced in the same Journal issue. In this small ship paradigm then MCr25 loose change may well cover it.

Local worlds pay Imperial taxes. Naval captains would carry requisition authority to draw supplies and funds for crew and miscellaneous expenses chargeable against those tax debts. A shipment of cash might be needed in a cash-poor sector.

Also, some sectors may have local currencies and a need for Imperial currencies could arise (local hyperinflation perhaps).
