Sci/Fi Novels

Awesome list for the Company/Union story set, never seen heavy time, brief on that one pls?

Heavy Time is the story of the main characters from Hellburner, how they met, and how they wound up in Company service. You'll have been much less confused about some of the events in Hellburner once you read Heavy Time.

A good read. I highly recommend it. I also missed a couple for the Alliance-Union main universe, like Rimrunners (Alliance), Cyteen (Unionside), and Forty Thousand in Gehenna (Unionside).

Rimrunners is a storyline dealing with intel and commerce raiders.
Cyteen is an interesting take on cloning, its wheres and whyfores. It also illuminates Union society ideals and themes.
Forty Thousand in Gehenna is about the problems involved in founding a Union colony.

I've read them all. :) I just missed listing them. CJC is my favorite author.

The Faded Sun trilogy (Kesrith, Shon'jir, Kutath). Also by CJC.

Fantastic for settings & culture... a "barbarian" species that is taken around through space as mercenaries by another species that doesn't like to do its own fighting.
NOT like any other such books you have read.

Hunter of Worlds is another of her better works (in my opinion).

Harrington novels are good for interstellar war, if you like the grunt level, I recommend the Valor series by Tanya Huff. If you like mercs, the Star Risk series by Chris Bunch is good. Or the Miles Vorkosigan series...
But I think the most Travelleresque series is still the Liaden Universe by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller.
