Scouts updated?

So, I've been using what I thought was a scout based rank in my fiction in the Cleon library section. But, not only is Flight Captain not mentioned (probably something I mis-remembered), but I noted that there're more ranks added in the last few days.

Thanks to whoever did that.

Be aware that the IISS Bureaucracy Ranks Table are the only canonical ranks. The other two Rank Tables (IISS Scout Fleet - Field Operations and IISS Security Branch) are non-canonical and noted as such, though they are reasonable extrapolations based on canonical comments within canon.

Note also that "ranks" (such as within Scout Fleet/Field Operations) may also simply be temporary and unofficial designations given during a particular assignment in the Field or for a particular mission.

Oh really? Oh well. I thought I read something similar in either GURPS or DGP. I guess I was wrong.

Both CT:Book 6 and GT:First In note that Scout Security Branch is organized as a standard military unit with formal ranks and a chain of command, but do not list the actual ranks in any table. These two sources also note that Scout Fleet Branch is organized like a naval unit and often lends some of its personnel to crew IISS vessels, but likewise does not specify a rank structure for such personnel.

CT:Book 6
and GT:First In do specify the standard ranks of the IISS Bureaucracy and Administration, however, while noting that Field Scouts have no formal rank; they are granted a courtesy administrative rank for interaction with the Bureaucracy based on the number of terms in service, when necessary.

Note that Scout Fleet Branch and Scout Security Branch are both formally part the Bureaucracy Division, not the Field Division.

Thanks. As per my response on another Scout thread, I kind of view them like Park Rangers or the US postal police. No one really suspects, or rather "expects", them to have or exercise law enforcement powers, but they can and do when needed. They're also akin to the coast guard; i.e. they get absorbed into the navy when needed.

Personally, I think this is a bit overkill for an RP game, but I guess someone was interested in the minutiae.

Quite a few of us were and are.

The problem is that lots of unneeded details for each GM exist. What details I want, Cryton might not. And some of the ones he wants, I don't want. And both he and I have highly overlapping TUs. Including some key NPCs that are not part of the official universe.

And a few Dark Secrets that are part of our TU's because we routinely share ideas back and forth, that are implied in canon. Things like Branj being Norris' lover. Or the rebellion really starting when Dulinor gets made Archduke and essentially banished from the capital scene. Or IRIS being the equivalent to Trek's Federation's Section 31.
