Non OTU: "Sealing" Ship's Weapons

And if the usual custoum was to "seal" (as much symbolic as it was) weaponry when you enter a system in a zone because they are considered secure, will you shun this zone for trade?

Hmmm, depends on what you define as "secure". If the pay is high enough for a trip in, and the risk-benefit ratio is positive, I likely would chance it. However, I would also be busy working on my non-weapon weaponry.

I think the issue here is probably that timerover is assuming a dangerous universe out there (which matches the OTU to a great extent). You can't assume anything. If there were a truly secure system - jump point to starport is a milk run - then he might rethink. But, knowing timerover, I doubt he'd want a milk run. ;)

Fritz, you are correct on that. To me, climbing down into a hole and checking the fuze on a WW2 2,000 pound bomb to see if the arming wires have been pulled is LIVING. That was on the island of Kolumbangara, near the former Japanese airstrip at Vila in May of 2002. Milk runs are boring. Taking a small ship through the Strait of Aden is something I would love to do, and try out some of my non-weapon weaponry ideas, although I think that the caltrops might qualify as weapons to some people.

Caltrops are a weapon. A defensive weapon.

and I hope some of your 'non-weapon' weapon ideas don't include a sonic gun. Such rubbish...

No, not at all. Then the 1 X 12 with nails driven through and barbed on the ship ladders should be okay then too. That is for real world ships, space ships would be equipped a tad differently.

Jumping in within 100 Dia of a 'friendly' system - bit different from just jumping in to the vastness of a star system with unknown threats... ;)
