Second Imperium SuperBattleship

Here is a MT challenge to all gearheads and creative types...(that got missed in another post)...

Design me a Second Imperium SuperDreadnought, only critera is that it be max TL F but with many subsystems at a lower tech, a large cargo hold in which cruisers could rest inside. So not a full fledged Battlecarrier nor Tender but somewhere halfway between, and be partially streamlined.

Keeping in mind, Second Imperium design philosophy. Think Chris Foss.

Design should include description, deckplans, and a picture**.

Best design might win a prize. TBA later. Which would reliquish your rights over the item as I will use it in adventure that I have brewing. Aknowledge and credit will be also given.

**Picture should have two representations. One standalone and the other with it crashed/embedded in a comet.

Why partially streamlined? I don't think anything that big would be able to land on a planet with any substantial gravity. Or were you thinking more for looks, like a star destroyer?

I leave it entirely in your hands...as I said, I do like the work of Chris Foss. But, I was thinking partially streamlined to make GG fueling easy.

Would that be Enterprise A or E? hehe

Neat contest - I'm sure the adventure that goes with it would be pretty cool, too.

Hey there. Not really up to speed on the design tradition you mentioned, but here's something I slapped together.

It's just a rough idea and I'd change a lot but it borrows a few elements I've been liking lately (a transverse axis, complex geometry, spine, etc.).

I just noticed the grillwork on the command section (missile bays? secondary scoop? sensors?) has a distinctively 'Original Cylon' look to it...

I was thinking quarters decks myself for the "grillwork".

Whaddaya mean you just noticed it ;) You drew it

It does lend a nice look to it fer sure.

It'd be a pity to have it impacted on some comet or something, but my imagination is perhaps primed and fired enough thanks to the illo that I may have to dust off the old MT design rules and give it a shot.

I presume the scale is your usual roughly 1.5m per small square mickazoid? I may have to fudge a bit depending on the final tonnage design but it looks big enough.

Just so you know though kafka, don't expect detailed (if any) deckplans for a monster like this, it's just too big

Nice idea! A major vulnerability, if one or more of the decks is breached there could be irreplaceable command losses.

Of course, that information is highly classified.

And I literally drew it in like 15 minutes so I haven't reflected on it - I think the proportions could be juggled a bit, scale is pretty flexible indeed (the hangar should be tall enough for clearance on cruisers and other vessels), the turrets should be visible in the front view, and the command section might look better with an underbite.

Anyway, hope Kafka and the others enjoy it. Any and all ideas welcome.

Or not ;) I'm seeing this as a fancy design by committee ship with all that forward deck view space for dignataries to look out of as they negotiate treaties with the Imperium for their planet below, with the looming business end of the spinal mount casting an ominous shadow from just above

Yeah I thought so, just razzin ya

OK, I had a quick start at it in a spare moment, and now I remember what I loathed about MT design

It's a fine system for doing small ships, but when you try to do a big one it gets to be annoying. I mean here I am dealing with a ship of some 2,700,000m3 and I'm supposed to be concerned with allocating a fraction of a cubic meter for the comms? And many other systems. Oh and the thing is going to have a powerplant putting out somewhere around 1 million mega watts and I have to note the fraction of a MW for the same comms?

I don't think so Charlie. Since I still haven't done my mega-build conversion* for MT (planned years ago but never bothered doing for a lot of reasons) I may just go with fudge and ignore a lot of minor items as given.

* where small things are lumped into nice modules for big ships to avoid all that insignificant detail

I also don't think you really care how many zillion credits this thing is going to cost do you kafka? I wasn't planning on doing the cost or worrying about any budget, this thing is a flagship, a show piece of sorts.

As I said designed by committee, across several systems (and thus several TLs mixed together).

I see it as a kind of monitor/enforcer/heavy-handed diplomacy ship. The large bay is a further intimidation factor. What could it be bringing? A huge fleet of SDBs to enforce a blockade or quarantine? An even bigger fleet of landing craft to occupy the planet with Imperial Troops?

Of course it may also be a carrot. Maybe the bay is full of medical shuttles come to treat the pandemic out of the kindness of the Emperor? Or could it be an evacuation fleet to save those not already dying and relocate them*

* to some hell hole of a world of course, just one more explanation for low pop garden worlds next to high pop hell holes, the evacuees were cured but no one wants to relocate them, and the few left behind are those "lucky" ones immune to the plague, fortunately a simple shot now protects anyone visiting, unfortunately it doesn't work for anyone descended from someone exposed so there's no going home for the cured evacuees or their descendants

Anyway, gotta run now, I'll see what I can throw together later.

hmm, just did some quick and dirty size estimates on mick's (may I call you mick?) illo and it looks a lot too small, only some 2Ktons (though that could be out by a lot) where I was figuring more around 200Ktons.

I still like the general image though so maybe I'll just fuzzy the dimensions to get more the size I want.

far - the scale is such that the bay is 3-6 stories or so tall. (1 visible square = 1 to 2 decks). About 4x the scale you mentioned by my reckoning, which might go a long way towards reconciling the numbers.

Those little squares and rectangles on the command section and aft section are supposed to be full-deck windows, docking portals, etc., etc.

And Mick's fine - Micki's my real name. I've heard 'em all.

Mick, I love it! Especially the gun platform at a perpendicular angle to the long axis. Nice, quirky design, just like I like it.

mickazoid versus Mal. Just to let you know how my brain works (???) I still prefer mickazoid's design, as Mal's is just too Terran Confederation for my liking...best said by:

'nuff said. But, I still welcome all designs...

Ummm, but Kafka47, the Solomani 2nd Imperium, aka (Vilani) "Ramshackle Empire" did use Solomani designs.

Now, in all fairness--aside from the fact that Maladominus' pix is from another RPG and not an 'original' design, okay, I concede your point.

Ms Mickazoid: Impressive work, as usual lass! What's her estimated tonnage?

Here is a layout of the various modules.

Each visible square is 1-2 decks.

Anyone care to do the math? I'm never clear on the formula.
